Floyd Mayweather v Conor McGregor, Betting Preview
The long wait is almost over and the highly anticipated fight between Mayweather and McGregor will take place in the early hours of Sunday morning South African time.
The fight will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada and it has been dubbed “The Money Fight” and is probably the most hyped fight of all time featuring a boxing legend in Mayweather up against a Mixed Martial Arts champion in McGregor. For all of the build up though the odds suggests it will be one-sided and we have to look deep for a betting strategy.
Floyd “Money” Mayweather
Mayweather retired with a 49-0 record having won world titles in 5 different weight divisions. The American is more of a craftsman than a street fighter although he has still managed to win just over 50% of his fights by knock out. He has not fought since 2015 and he goes into this fight as a 40 year old.
Conor “The Notorious” McGregor
The Irishman is 29 years old who while keeping an interest in boxing has built his reputation in the Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) field and is currently signed to the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) where he is the reigning Lightweight and former Featherweight champion. His MMA record reads 21 victories and 3 defeats in 24 fights. This will be his 1st professional boxing fight.

The fact that this fight takes place as a boxing bout is the reason that Mayweather is installed as such a firm favourite. The general consensus from boxing fans and experts is that Mayweather will be too skillful for McGregor and he will pick him off while staying out of trouble. There are very few calling a McGregor upset but those that do point to his killer instinct and the fact that his opponent is now on the wrong side of 40 and has been retired for 2 years.
This fight has certainly captured the imagination of the public but figuring out how to make money on it is not that easy. I am in the Mayweather camp and while I have never enjoyed his style of fighting I have always respected it. I expect McGregor to come at him early but for Mayweather to remain calm as he sits behind his jab. As McGregor starts to tire later in the fight I predict Mayweather will become more offensive and a stoppage in the latter rounds is certainly a possibility and is how I am structuring my bets.
Round Group Betting: Mayweather rounds 7-9 at 15/4
Round Group Betting: Mayweather rounds 10-12 at 6/1
In order to show a profit I need “Money” Mayweather to win this fight inside the distance but not before the 7th round.
