English Premier League Week 2, Betting Preview
We are into Week 2 of the EPL and we pick 3 of the matches to have a bet in and will also be previewing the Tottenham v Chelsea match which takes place on Sunday.
Swansea v Manchester United – click here to bet
Swansea’s opening match was a 0-0 away draw at Southampton and given the hosts started 6/10 favourites Swansea would certainly have come away happy with a point. They play their first home game of the season and will be looking to continue where they left off at the end of last season when they won their last 3 home games.
Manchester United were very impressive kicking off their campaign with a 4-0 home win over West Ham last week. Their away form did let them down last season though and they only took 2 points from the last 12 they played for towards the end of the season, although it should be added that their focus at that point was very much on the Europa League.
Manchester United won this fixture 3-1 last season and the sides drew 1-1 when they played at Old Trafford.
Manchester United 4/10
Suggested bet: Both teams to score, YES, at 12/10.
Swansea are always likely to grab a goal at home and this bet would have arrived in the last 6 matches between the sides.
Liverpool v Crystal Palace– click here to bet
Liverpool play their first home match this season after drawing 3 all with Watford away in a thrilling encounter in Week 1. They were a bit shaky on the road towards the end of last season, only winning 1 of their last 4 and they will certainly have to tighten up their defence if they are to challenge for the title this season.
Crystal Palace got off to an awful start to the season losing 3-0 at home to newcomers Huddersfield last week. There is little encouragement that can be taken from their away form last season where they lost 3 of their last 4 matches.
These sides met in the Asian Trophy pre-season with Liverpool winning 2-0 and in the League it was the away side that won in each meeting last year.
Crystal Palace 15/2
Suggested bet: Goals, home team 3 or more at 13/10.
Liverpool may well have their problems this season but scoring goals at home will probably not be one of them and I expect 3 or more against a Palace team that looks in for a long, hard season.
Stoke City v Arsenal – click here to bet
Saturday’s late kick off sees Stoke hosting Arsenal and they will be looking to bounce back from a 1-0 away defeat to Everton on the opening day of the season. Stoke’s home form was less than impressive towards the end of last season, winning only 1 of their last 5 and both teams found the back of the net in 4 out of those 5 games.
Arsenal looked set to be heading for an opening game defeat but they came back to beat Leicester 4-3 at home last week. They had some decent away form towards the end of the previous season winning 3 of their last 4 games including beating Stoke 4-1 in their last away match. Arsenal also had the better of Stoke 3-1 when they played at home last season and over the two matches there were 9 goals in total.
Stoke City 32/10
Suggested bet: Both teams to score, YES, at 7/10.
This was a common thread in Stoke home matches towards the end of last season and the bet would also have arrived in both of last season’s League clashes.
