The Kenilworth feature was won by top three-year-old filly Clouds Unfold from the Candice Bass-Robinson yard and a few of the fillies who ran behind her are lining up for this event on the Fairview turf track.
Third in that race was Freedom Charter, also from the Bass-Robinson yard while fifth place went to Mary O’Reilly who is trained in Port Elizabeth by Yvette Bremner.
Only 0.45 lengths separated the pair and on this occasion Mary O’Reilly is 1.5kg better off.
Bremner has engaged champion jockey Lyle Hewitson to ride this daughter of Sail From Seattle.
Freedom Charter has to be the biggest threat to the local hope as she has a decent record over 1200m with two wins and a third from four runs. Craig Zackey takes the ride.
Carlita also contested the Sceptre Stakes and she finished ninth, beaten 5.30 lengths. That puts her 2.30 lengths behind Mary O’Reilly but she is 1kg worse off and on that basis will need to make massive improvement if she is to turn the form around.
Carlita is trained by Alan Greeff who also owns a share of the horse in partnership with Andrew Fortune who is the father of the jockey, Aldo Domeyer.
The best handicapped runner is Canukeepitsecret who is trained by Vaughan Marshall in Cape Town. This three-year-old daughter of Captain Al was another who ran in the Cape Town feature but finished 0.50 lengths behind Carlita.
She is 1kg better off and that should give her a good opportunity of finishing ahead of Greeff’s runner if she can find her best form. MJ Byleveld rides.
