Greg, one consolation is that we now have a 12/1 bet on the Aussie's to beat India. Might take a bit of cover at 2/1 India.

Good idea with India Shrek... ;)

Before the world cup Domingo said we too harsh on parnell in an interview.. I wonder if he still believes we are.. He was the 5th bowler and extra batsman, basically the only genuine all rounder that can really give you 10overs.. Then he becomes a liability and the whole balance and structure turns into a joke, AB has to bowl himself, duminy becomes a 5th bowler instead of a part timer.. Adam Milne picks up and injury for NZ and young Matt Henry fills that position seamlessly, keeping the balance and structure of the team.. In the aussie team, if u don't perform, u are gone, within the 13man squad there is always someone to take ur spot, as we saw when Watson was dropped.. De Kock should have been dropped long ago but again no provision made for that.. NZ always has the balance of their teams spot on, that's why at every world cup they punch above their weight.. We'll never learn!

Imagine the up roar in India if MS Dhoni bowled in the world cup semi final and India lost. AB should never have bowled but unfortunately he had too because the selection of the team was all wrong. SA teams seem to have a plan and when the plan does not work they stick to the plan because there is no other plan. De Kock should have batted lower down the order with Amla and Du Plessis opening. Why take the 2nd spinner when he was never going to play. They should have taken A Morkel or McLaren instead of him. But we all have opinions and most of them are negative because we are all disappointed. Tomorrow is a new dawn and the flat season is just around the corner so there is something to look forward too.

SA went into this world cup with one genuine bowling all rounder, australia have about three who play on a given day, faulkner, maxwell, Watson and can throw Mitch Marsh in.. Nz have two atleast, anderson and vettori.. Our one can't seem to bowl one side of the wicket, this was b4 the world cup, its not like Parnell took a form dip during the WC, that disaster was coming.. So sad for a country who has produced so many brilliant bowling all rounders in the past.. McClaren and Morris sorely missed.. Behardien! Oh Lord! That selection, the less sed the better.. But I'm done.. Well Done on winning the WC Aussies!

Lots of views - many of which I agree with:

1 . Yes team selection was a problem - again it showed how much we relied on Kallis to balance the team - Parnell should never have been picked (MClaren much better choice - not sure if he was available); de Kock came back from injury, so no time to get ready and Morne van Wyk should have been given the opportunity - or if AB was going to be the WK, I still maintain Levy should have been included); Phangiso - did not deserve his place - so all in all the color factor dominated merit - and unfortunately I think it is going to get worse before it gets better.

2. Yes, Abbott should have played yesterday and not Philander

3. Yes, our performance in the field yesterday was not up to scratch

But I think we could still have overcome all these obstacles IF the number one bowler in the world coming in to the tournament (not anymore though - I think he has lost that title to both Boult and Starc) could perform to his usual high standards - unfortunately Dale Steyn was not at his best in the tournament. Yes, he seemed to carry an injury (or got injured early in the game yesterday), but still that onslaught against him by McCullum and the fact that he failed to defend 11 or 12 in that last over (never easy, but hey, that's what he was there for) cost us a place in the final - imo. Also the fact that he did not take the wickets up front, meant that our 5th bowler was going to be exposed, whether this 5th bowler was McClaren, Parnell, de Villiers or Duminy (or any combination of them). I think the bodies of these fast bowlers take an awful pounding, and who knows for how long he will be able to carry on, but for South African Cricket's sake let's hope he does not take part in this IPL circus, and come back stronger than ever next season.

I agree with a lot that has been said above but i will not blame any particular player, AB Steyn Philander included. They had their chance and blew it

What hurt me is the fact that we [SOUTH AFRICA] may never in my lifetime ever have a realistic chance to win anything big, ie soccer, rugby or cricket
Yes,we may host it,but thats it
Just this morning on sabc news i heard that by 2019 they want 50% black representation
So just by being black means you merit inclusion into Springbok,Bafana and Protea squads

We can now only have world champions in individual sports

How fucked-up is that?
