very proud to see the way both sides behaved and abd is a champ ..just hope before I die that politics and sport stay separate but I fear that this will never happen

Nobody remembers the good guys...people only remember who has the trophy...

It's reached the point where I really don't care how great each member of the squad is...just win a trophy...there are many bad guys out there but they have a World Cup winners medal and that is the only thing they will be remembered by...

When we talk about Proteas teams from eternity to now, we will remember all the moments they snatched defeat from the jaws of victory and them being good gracious losers will not matter one iota...

So I'm not proud...I'm disappointed again because we bottled it once again...and I say this because we managed to mess up almost every big incident in the match...the near run-outs, dropped catches, etc, etc...we didn't play to win...we played so defensively when fielding so as not to lose...there is little gallant in that...it is deja vu...a ground hog day of note when playing in matches that really matter...

Anyone with a good remedy to sober up ?? Or maybe another trip to the bar may prolong the dawning of reality ??

I would just like to use one word "unlucky"
Have never enjoyed cricket but thought it was a cracking game and certainly caught (bad choice of word) attention.

Nothing to do with luck...at that level, everyone has some ability so the differentiating factor that it comes down to is mental fortitude when the chips are down...and we bottled it once again...if you take a thousand catches in training and don't take one when it really matters or you hit the stumps a thousand times in training but cannot do it when it really matters then i'm afraid it has nothing to do with luck but a lack of mental fortitude...the smallest margins determine winning and losing at that level and we just don't have what it takes...

But we can try to console ourselves in that we are such gracious losers, great guys and represent us as a country with pride and dignity...I would gladly trade all that for ONE trophy...

Methinks they had to play Philander to get the demographics / "representivity" right after leaving out Behardien...decision had nothing to do with cricket form as that would surely have meant that Abbott played...just my opinion...think there an unspoken rule of 4 "non-Whites"... :(...will check starting line-ups over last 1 to 2 years to confirm...

Guys they were only one lucky 4 ( vetorri) in the last or 2nd last over away from victory. Elliot was outstanding, brilliant infact

I feel for Abbott too but that said, Philander from all our fast bowlers had the best economy rate in the semi-final. We never take the three chances we had in the last couple of overs. I posted the pictures of two of them, the other was De Kock never gather the ball when Rossouw threw it in to run out Elliot.

Agree we did miss th opportunities when it presented it self. BUT Abott has a nack of getting an early wicket in most innings.(Deep breathe) guess its all done and dusted now have nothing else to say but will always stay 100 percent protea supporter.
The best horse doesn't always win the race.

Not appropriate to single out one dropped catch as reason for the loss .IMO it was a combination of factors that caused the team to fail.

To begin with if I were captain I would have opened and closed the bowling with a spinner who has been very economical in the last few games.Disastrous to close with an injury hit bowler.

No not the rain or the missed catches or stumpings but the fact that they weren`t playing in their baby pink outfits.

this story was told in 1992, then again in 96, 99, 2003, 2011 and again today in 2015.

No doubt it will be told in 2019, 2023, 2027 and for generations to come. Just like the great footballing nation of Holland will never win the world cup, same applies to the South African cricket team :(

'I was in Grade 11 (Std 9) when I first came across an affliction called SA cricket snatching defeat from the jaws of victory"...more than 20 years later and the pain has not abated as we continue to straight-jacket ourselves by sticking to plans, processes, systems..whatever those are...our players are like drones in the reasons they provide after the same outcomes...competitive sport is not a popularity contest so getting the accolades of most sporting team and most liked, etc means zero...it only serves to pacify our hurt and anger whilst the reality is that we know that we are mentally not tough enough when it really really matters to win the matches that matter...we accept the platitudes but we know that we will always be deemed mediocre until that trophy is with us and yet it is not accepting the platitudes that will bring about the mental toughness required to win the trophy...

Don't be disappointed...be angry...and that anger must fuel a toughened mindset to never want to be in this space again...

Insanity is doing the same thing and expecting a different result and yet we persist...at the highest levels, the only thing that matters is having your name on a trophy...that is the only thing that affirms that you were the best at the highest level...nothing else matters...

I think South Africa are what Spain was in football. Always played well but no trophies. Once they won one they won many.

I think Miller getting out cost us at least 20 runs in Duck Worth Lewis. If he stayed he could have scored at least 10-12 more runs!
