I know the feeling boet the same thing happens to me, horse was 3/1 on books and with a couple of secs to go it was showing R6 odd on the tote naturaly i placed open bet win on betxchange only to find it paid R2 ODD AFTERWARDS .

I am not supporting the tote but i noticed that the reason why the divdend changed so much ( after observing other races aswell0 WAS THAT it seems as if the pools are run seperatly locally and in England and that after the race is closed the pools are added together and the dividends calculated accordingly .How did i coclude this ? The win and place and exacta dividends localy are the same as those displayed on Racingposts results site .

Couldn't some fat cat from pampoenella just explain this to the punters ?

That is exactly what happens, but on a gradual slide. What they do is they combine the two/three/four pools every 20 seconds or so, which after repeated emails by myself and Dave was then brought down to about 10 second updates. Still, there is a big amount being comingled just on the jump and comes into our pools about 2 to 5 seconds (or so after the local race has jumped). Due to a lot of money being wagered at the jump, these moves for certain horses are often pretty significant, therefore the giant differences.

I understand this issue and can see how it must be a headache for Phumelela. What I cannot for the life of me understand is how 2 horses in 1 race can pay R1-00 a place?!?!?!!??!?!
It happened today at Flamingo, where in Race 6 the dividends were as follows:

Trifolium a win paid R3.20 and R1.00 a place
Scent of money paid R1.00 a place (Dividends as on Saftote)

This happened in a reasonably competitive 9 horse MR67 in KIMBERLEY!!!!!

I'm sorry but apart from being a complete idiot I can't see how payouts like that can be normal?

These boys are under pressure I understand and they obviously want comingling to work, but then they should also start answering our complaints and let us know whats going on?

I hope the "does's" from TAB read this post as herein lies the problems to the mysterious "Aussie punter".
Offcourse they have known this all while.

I also posted on the site with regards the 2 horse race, makes its so much easier to check what pressure the normal "punter" is up against, I posted PLEASE don't make them both "money-on", however blackpearl at 7/10 and 11/10 tried to come to the party, Interbet at racetime came to the party in-line with Betfair with 8/10 and 12/10 at 100%, but the early prices from the bookies at 6/10 and 9/10 shocking, but the shocker was the TOTE with 7/10 the winner and "NOT TOTE FAV", this must surely expose to the poor punter in the tote how much the "rip off" factor is. I will say this one more time as it totally infuriates me that the French co-mingling fiasco when Dettori won on the 6/1 shot and it paid 11/10 on the tote and "WAS NOT THE TOTE FAV", just wish more people could read these posts on the site, and after my inputs on Saturday, many people do read the site, but don't post.

As a Punter I am always looking for the value . Sometimes the tote holds better value or so I think !!!! No more tote bets for me .

Isn't this Vee Moodly's area of management....interesting no more communication from him.....His Masters Voice must have banned him.

Absolutely right Pirates.We need an undertaking that "all to come bets" will be added to the relevant pool as it qualifies,and not after the event!

We have all forms of the media shoving down our throught that betting on SAFTOTE puts back money back into racing unlike betting with bookies. I refuse to place a win or place bet with SAFTOTE due to the fluctuations at the off. Do SAFTOTE not realise how many punters they are loosing to bookies or other forms of gambling due to the massive fluctuations at the off. All the examples here have been on horses shortening I have also seen horses going from R6.00 to R10.00 a win, but it could just as easily shorten to R2.90. If I wanted to play the lottery I would because unfortunately this is what SAFTOTE has become.

You don`t have all sorts of media shrek you have their media shoving it down your throats..

The mind boggles on this one, is it a stand alone pool with all these various combinations?

Lets say I put a R100 on race 3 number 5 where is the price or payout established does it go into the overall win pool and when the dividend is confirmed as R5.00 a tote win does the R500 go onto my next bet in race 7 into the win pool of race 7 to establish how much I have going on to the next stage of my ATC?

If not and its stand alone with the numerous combinations for wins and places with various races the payouts would be negligible and in many cases you might not only be the winning ticket but the only stake placed on that combination?

Good luck and not to sound big headed but if it confuses me how is the message or justification for even stranger payouts going to get to the masses when they think they have hit the jackpot?

Sorry or will it be a clear cut case where I can look at the payouts and work out my ATC payout?
