I fail to see why, bearing in mind the value of the industry, why covering can't be designed to START every meeting with reasonable going. Most abandonments are caused by lead-up weather and these would be saved.Today, for instance, morning storm, and even if clear this afternoon, no racing!
In winter its too dry to race the good horses, and in summer, often too wet to race at all.(and apparently getting worse due to climate change.)

The abandonment of meetings is not completely random. Why not use statistics to back up meetings that are at risk (eg.W.Cape in winter)
If it leads to more racing,so much the better, according to the forums. If we have too few races for too many horses, you either have to cull horses or increase races.
Not really rocket science!

Dboy, if that true then I'm not surprised....... they probably watered the track yesterday as well ( just me guessing ) which would have compounded things.
a great pity....... FIRST SUMMER RAINS & 1ST MEETING CANCELLED................. couldn't they re schedule for Friday, either at VAAL or TURFFONTEIN........ I feel sorry for all those owners loosing out....... horse spending months in the box, not getting a draw..... finally get in a race ....... THEN ABANDONED.

i would take evens that they watered the track early in the week.
Considering that this was a really moderate card , i would imagine the trainers wouldve been happy to let their charges run ,they couldve pushed this meeting to tomorrow on the sand , surely by then the water wouldve drained a tad outa the sand.
Having spoken to the track manager in the past ,he told me the sand track requires exesive waterung.

was any thought given to moving the meeting to FRIDAY....... either on sand or turf ? time for the R.A. to open up to their members & be counted - give answers.... now is NOT the time to be quite...... & the rainy season hasn't really started yet.

arlington 39mm of rain in last 24 hours and they are rAcing but vaal has 13mm and cant race...something badly wrong considering vaal had zero rain prior to the 13mm and arlington had a total of 96mm in LAST WEEK
