I thought it was only the muppets in South Africa who didn't know what they were doing.......The horse Life At Ten (John Velasquez and Todd Pletcher) was CLEARLY in some discomfort being saddled as well as when she went to post. The jock ADMITTED ON TV that something was wrong with the horse. He said he was worried that she was wide in front and not striding out. He admitted to this TWICE!!!!!!
The on course veterinary surgeon NOR the jock gets involved to stop this horse from running..........
What happens..............
She jumps from the stalls and never raises a gallop. She trails in some 400 yards behind the 2nd last horse. After the pull up she is visibly limping.
Now I ask you with tears in my baby blues................What the f$%^k was the jockey and the vet thinking when they allowed this poor animal to run?!?!?!?!?!?!?
Even the trainer admitted that she was unusually quiet and subdued. He admitted he was very worried.
You would imagine that between the jock, trainer and vet they could act in the best interests of the horse??????
Not to mention that the public got royally screwed. She was a heavily supported 2nd favourite!!!
The great American racing machine fails everyone!
C'mon man!!!!!

Pity there's no US/ESPN coverage here in the UK.
The Attheraces production is not a patch on the American coverage.
Lets hope Zenyatta and Goldikova take all the profit the bookies made today.
Also hope Michael Stoute stops worrying about the ground, which seems fine and gives Workforce the all clear to run...

Tommy I never saw the interview but if that's what happened its a disgrace plain and simple, the jockey and trainer should be fined and suspended...

Easy, could you be a little more specific! (Just kidding. I agree with you. I thought she had broken down or something in the first quarter-mile of the race.)

Barry
the winner ran 2nd no doubt about that. Everyone knows she labours in the early part of a race but yesterday was no ordinary race and Smith should have had a plan b/c/d/e/f/g/h/i/j and k. This is where i think he erred.
As for the mare she is a superstar, i looked at her from behind 4 runs back when i was there and she walks like John Wayne. Her back legs are so far apart i wondered if she had balls. She is unique and a freak, i am glad i got to see her in the flesh and i feel for her not winning 20 in a row BUT i PRAISE the connections for racing her. Many would have packed her off to stud....
