She is still the best imo, she beat the entire field but one (for the second time) . i still think trying to get through on the rail was a mistake she likes her space.....i hope they don't retire her....

I'm convinced if mike smith went wide into the straight zenyatta would have gotten going earlier and would have cruised home.

Zenyatta is still the powerhouse of American horseracing in fact the entire world of thoroughbred racing. Pity she as to retire now. Could Unclo Mo be the next Zenyatta, we wait in anticipation.

Jockey failed in bringing the best queen 'Z' home,a horrible ending for the owners after the champ had to much to do coming from 18 lengths off the pace, and failing narrowly, but wow what a horse.

Before the start of the race she was playing around with her front legs which I thought could have been a little omenous. Does anyone know why a horse would do this?

She always does that.....very strange in mares though......it is a common practice for unbroken colts and also in stallions to try and stamp dominance or issue a challange in the herd ....she may be an equine equivalent to Semenya as she could have internal testes.....I am not sure if she has been tested for abnormal testosterone but these abnormalities have been found in a few race mares.....let's see if she can produce at stud....if so ......then very strange indeed....:S

Zenyatta's racing career 'still in discussion'

A DECISION on Zenyatta's future may not emerge until the end of the month, according to her trainer John Shireffs who said "where she's going is still in discussion".

Shirreffs said owners Jerry and Ann Moss were still deciding whether the mare would return to the racetrack, though the trainer himself has already suggested her career may be over in the wake of her heartbreaking defeat in Saturday's Breeders' Cup Classic.

In an interview with Reuters, Shirreffs said bad luck had cost Zenyatta her chance of stretching her unbeaten run to 20, the mare having had her path blocked by the tiring Quality Road as she began her charge in the straight which ended in her getting to within a head of the winner Blame.

"Everybody wanted the fairytale ending," said Shirreffs. "We wanted it. All the fans wanted it. Going to Churchill Downs undefeated, going against the boys in the Breeders' Cup Classic - it was just a great story. We wanted the perfect ending. We didn't get the perfect ending but we saw a horse with a tremendous amount of heart that really tried. She was layingit all down.

"In these kind of races you just need a break and have some luck somewhere in the race. On Saturday, Zenyatta just didn't catch a break anywhere. When Quality Road backed up in front of her and Mike [Smith] had to alter course and take back, that was tough. She's zig-zagging down the lane, looking for a path, and has to check and go one more wide. That probably cost her."

Shirreffs said Zenyatta's performance had won her even more fans. "I've gotten so many e-mails and calls from people who thought she ran such a courageous race," he added. "People who didn't believe in her are now saying, 'Wow, she really is what they said she was.'"

The Mosses have yet to indicate what they will do next. Shirreffs said: "They are talking about making a decision by the end of November but I can't say for sure. Where she's going is still in discussion."
