Chalk and cheese. Nico has and always will be a very competent studio host. I think he must stay out of the commentary box. I have to give credit where it is due.
GO Nico !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The last 200 to 100 was the most exciting as appose what should have been the last 100 to post..... Sounded like he was calling a MR58 race at Kimberly rather than the Summer Cup. What a let down.

I was listening and comparing Sheldon's commentaries in KZN today with yesterdays um, blunder. Sheldon has been in for a lot of flack on these forums before but for me his commentating is about keeping your cool and gradually building up to crescendo. He seems to have this coolness in abundance even going as far as to slow down the calling of a horses name to get his bearings.
We note increase in tone and pitch as they get closer to the winning post, very much similar to a jockey timing his run. Nico seemed to hit the crescendo very early and the next step would have been exploding blood vessels in the lungs. Sometimes for all of us in our various careers, the event is greater than common sense and we make a balls up of it.
Whilst I am not NK's biggest fan, it must be tough having the pressure of illness and having to read negative comments on this site, leading up to a big race call. Cant do much for confidence but then again; if he was as perfect as all of us, he would never had made a mistake in the first place!!!
IMO the secret for becoming a succesful commentator is to stick the task and avoid trying to hog the limelight. The same should be said for presenting. The Molly's and Shaheens are few and far between
As for other points of interest NP seemed to be shouting in the presentation ceremonies so much so that by the last couple of races his voice was going. This could be for 1 of 2 reasons.
1. The sound system was crap
2. or the excitement angle was being over played.
It reminds of my early club days when new DJ's first got hold of the mic. Not enough volume on the mic or overplaying th excitemnet angle....
Public speaking is tough and it only gets worse when the critics are having a go.
