whoever now owns the property must be losing plenty money, surely it could be bought for shit and be brought back to its former glory...it is perfectly positioned demographically for a horse racing centre and punters loved to bet on bloem racing...what an absolute waste

No problem. At least that would guarantee the house of a thousand oriental sensual delights a steady client base......

In years gone by Old Government offered tax breaks for investing in TaBanchu smelling wrong. and this was primarily taken by Chinese people. so lots of chinese people probably already in the area.

SCOTIA and MAGIC, what worries me is, are you interesred in getting racing going there again or do your interests lie in the "Oriental Delights". You do know that yellow fever is incurable. Keep in mind that the old Bloem racecourse is across the road from the airport, less than a 2 minute drive and JHB to Bloem by car is a 3 hour drive. It would be a grand idea if such a undertaking is ever considered.
I believe, according to friends that the Free State goverment are toying with the idea of erecting a Disney World in the fair city of Flower Fountain.

Cheers Kevcee, I am to old for Oriental Delights plus have been yellow last couple of weeks (but on the mend) always thought Bloem would have been better to keep open rather than Kimberley, but at this stage cant see us opening more tracks, the ones we have are not well attended.

I want the racing. I couldn't care less about the Oriental Delights (especially as I love in Durban and Bloem is bloody far away).....but almost any price to get the racecourse going again would be worthwhile (even a, um, house of ill repute>

Was searching a couple of old posts.
Re: what has happened to our local HARNESS RACING ?

hi DAVE,
Great to hear from you.
In short the racing is only in kzn natal with a handfull of horses racing once a month for 2010.
The potential to expand appears to be limited due to the low interest factor of south african horse folk to become personally involved as is seen in FRANCE,AMERICA ,AUSTRALIA and SWEDEN.The slow uptake is hampering the horsenumbers expanding to a level where the sport can sustain growth from the wagering dimension in SOUTH AFRICA.
I have personally resigned from the HARNESS RACING ASSOCIATION and CLASSIC HARNESS RACING,to push the efforts needed to get GREYHOUND RACING INTO SOUTH AFRICA .Dean LATIMER is still the chairman of the association and could possibly offer more insight into harness racings future from here on.
The sport of greyhound racing currently has many followers in south africa alongside an amateur following who own dogs numbering 2500 and we are lobbying hard to try and get this code legalized.
kind regards
clive
