no, the handler did not let go of the reigns and the horse was impeded. It is now scratched and we can get out money back!
I still maintain that the handler tried to calm the horse down. It started to rear even before they came under orders. I think the starter should have waited before releasing them!
Just my opinion of course!

Winds of War drifted in betting and money came for the winner . No race review and money given back to punters . Nice !!

Yes and it was clear that the handler never let go when the gates opened :X

Yes he didn't let go I agree with you 100%, but like I said the guy wanted to calm the horse down and the starter let them go.
Either way I would have preferred it run and see how well he would have gone!

All on place just to cover the stakes... a must bet for capital preservation.

A tricky balancing act for the starter and his team, because the horse is nuttier than a bag of cashews. He has now appeared on a racecourse four times, but officially only run once. No doubt he needed a calming hand in the stalls, but the hand stayed on him just too long. Yet if the handler had let go too early there could have been even greater chaos. It's all very unfortunate because the horse can clearly gallop, but the way he carries on we may never find out how good he really is.

Agreed Magic, I knew I had seen his name around for a while now. Wasn't he down in PE once upon a time as well and he did the same thing there?
I think I remember as it was heavily supported the first time it was supposed to run there?
Hope Joey figures something out with him and gets him to his next start in one piece.
