Not sure what rules they have in the UK?

Kauto Star tests reveal low-grade infection

TRAINER Paul Nicholls said on Wednesday that Kauto Star's blood tests following his shock defeat in the William Hill King George VI Chase on Saturday showed signs of inflammation and a low-grade infection.

The 11-year-old, who was bidding for a history-making fifth win in Kempton's showpiece race, finished only third behindthe Nicky Henderson-trained pair Long Run and Riverside Theatre, but was reported to have "bled" after the race, the first time he had done so in his career.

Revealing the news on Twitter, Nicholls posted: "Just had Kauto Star's blood test results. Shows signs of inflammation and low-grade infection. Week's antibiotics and easy few days. Update on Friday."

After the King George, Nicholls scotched talk of Kauto Star's retirement and said he would head straight to Cheltenham for the Totesport Gold Cup, for which he is as big as 10-1.

I see on the 'other' site that an explanation has been provided; in this particular case it seems fair to me; the only question that will never be answered is if the same would have applied were the horse in question owned (and the application made) by A N Other?

Yep, the explanation makes sense. (The Swallow Stakes was originally scheduled for the 20th January).

Dear Dave

Your e-mail of this morning refers.

The fact as regard STING OPERATION are as follows:

1. STING OPERATION was suspended as a result of suffering an epistaxis when it raced at Clairwood Racecourse on 20 October 2010. The suspension was for three months and was therefore due to expire on 19 January 2010.

2. The Phumelela Racing Programme up until 31 January 2011 had been published some months ago.

3. In the published programme the Swallow Stakes was scheduled to be run at Turffontein on 20 January 2011 and Mr C Laird, the Trainer of STING OPERATION had planned to run the filly in that race.

4. Due to international betting opportunities Phumelela decided in late December 2010 to move this race meeting from 20 January 2011 to 18 January 2011 which would by dint of the suspension have precluded the filly from running.

5. Mr Laird, given these circumstances, applied in writing to me for a dispensation in terms of the suspension.

6. I confirmed the change of dates with Phumelela and given the circumstances, I took a decision which I am authorized to do in terms of Rule 94.3.1 to reduce the suspension by 2 days.

7. Notification of my decision was published in the Racing Calendar on 7 January 2010. A copy thereof is attached.

I trust that this clarifies the issue but feel free to contact me should you wish to.

Regards

R D de Kock

I have often wondered where notifications of this nature are published....what is the Racing Calender? Where is it found? How often does it appear?
I have looked on the NHA website and can't find it(the last bit of news they have is historic).

(I see De Kock continues to have problems with dates??????.......I assume he meant 2011?)
