Shocking once again to see how we were ripped off, what is wrong with our bookies, how can we be exactly half the odds on offer.JJ was 17-10,and our thieves offered us 17-20,do they think that we wont find out, bunch of thieves.

It is not only JJ. I posted on another thread earlier as I had not seen this one. Every SA horse was priced up way below what the exchanges were showing even if you took 20% of the exchange price. Our Giant was 13/1 on Betfair and 13/2 here officially. If you want to price up like that fine but them push the other horses out, but the bookies here are too tight to do that. This practice is disgraceful and that is why i did not back a horse tonight as I felt I was getting ripped off.

In Hong Kong, United States and Japan bettors determine the odds, not bookmakers. Wise up.

Harris my old friend, just for clarity then,

when a lone SA star runs internationally and is favourite, is it your contention that the local bookmakers should offer the international market price even though they probably will not lay a bet a different runner?

Jack, make the horse shorter by all means. 7-10 off an international quote of 16-10 is what pisses us off.

If our laws weren't so archaic and punters could bet overseas, the bookmakers here would have the correct price. Therefore, they are taking advantage of us because of our restrictions. Just because you have power over someone doesn't mean you have the right to abuse that power.

Not sure when the penny will drop with punters. It's all about taking the best price. Taking the wrong prices ,and the unfortunate fact that we have to pay betting tax, stagger the odds against us. If we had no betting tax and active markets at 100%, a lot of us would be making a decent living out of racing.

We cannot take these prices they offer because : 1 - in the long run you will lose taking under the odds.
2 - it perpetuates the problem.

On the one hand, based on the supply and demand principle,it is inevitable for JJ to be much shorter on SA markets, however ,with all the overseas racing, surely as a local bookmaker you would make arrangements to enable trading with an overseas bookmaker, and by arbing would be able to capture almost all the local market, and show a good profit, regardless?
Why was somebody not buying "stock" at 16/10 and selling it at 12/10???
I'v said it before.....having a licence doesn't make you a bookmaker or businessman, any more than standing in a garage makes you a car!

I think as a punter whether win or lose the right price should be offered. As Mr Irwin states the prices should not be determined by a bookmaker but being in our lovely country there is massive manipulation of markets.

The tote was 4/10 that's what the punters/bettors determined.
