Yeni rides veto goes start to finish having cleared away... today Mr clever Lerena decides to tuck it in.. Mathafa wins on saturday having been drawn in the rand stadium after having finished behind veto last time... Leaves you scratching your head

of course not, when last did they invetigate anything of relevance to the punter? The commentator even picked up a change, He said Veto cant get to the front today?????? Watch the replay and make up your mind, was he trying to get to the front?

Last time was 1400m with no other early speed, today was 1200m with a fast 1000m horse in Archangel Michael blitzing up front. Nothing untoward here, unless you can produce sectional timings to show otherwise (which would be nice, but so would a winning lottery ticket). I think Veto could only have come unstuck if he'd tried to get to the front today. I may be wrong, but I'm sure as hell not scratching my head over this one.
If ever there was a lesson in the value of sectional or split times, this is it.

O come on magic, why stuff up a good conspiracy theory with some factual observations:

Magic, I respect but cant really agree! Veto's time for the last run was pretty good. I believe if Lerena let him go he would have dictated... All I am saying is there is no consistency in the punters favour. Why was he waiting for Marcus to get first run.... How many jocks can outride Marcus the last 300? If you watch carefully he jumps more than a length ahead of archangel...

So what? Archangel Michael is a faster horse than Veto, it's as simple as that. The overall win time of Veto's win is also misleading - you need the splits. They may (or may not) show that he was allowed to open up a big lead in a race that was not run that fast through the first few hundred metres. Without the sectional times there is nothing to "investigate". Win times in isolation can be very deceptive because you can achieve the same time over say 1400m by going at a good steady gallop throughout or by ambling through the first bit and then flying through the second part of the race. Same time, very different scenario.
Sorry that you disagree with the laws of physics, but they still won't change.

Now imo the result of the 7th is much more worthy of an investigation - Casey's Guest was held on his recent runs - yes he was better off at the weights but not to turn it around in the manner he did?

Must say I know very little about physics but I have to agree fully with Magic here. The difference between a 1000m horse (Archangel) and a 1200/1400m horse is light years. If you put them in a match race for say 600m the 1000m race horse SHOULD (clever choice of wording) win by 20 lengths.
There is very little chance for Veto to have gotten to the front today with a speed horse in there. It doesn't mean he didn't run to his rating however. He was not well in at the weights, especially being a 3 year old so for him to have run 3rd was a commendable effort. Across the Ice was a dead cert at the weights and under the conditions of the race but that one obviously did not run to form.
I have been an advocate for sectional timing now for as long as I can remember, especially seeing how well it works here in the states and indeed almost everywhere else in the world.
Will anybody in power ever listen to smart men like Magic et al instead of cutting the legs off people who have only the best for this beautiful sport at heart?????
