I found out today from one of the foremost TV people in the racing game that apparently it costs R8,000 more per meeting to have a satellite link as opposed to a fibre optic link (the latter being the Telkom link I presume).

Tipster could you find out how much you'd have to pay someone to get the backroom staff to do their jobs ? Perhaps TT should first get the product they are selling up to a reasonable standard before they worry about broadcasting it to the WORLD?

With all the crap that is rammed down our throats in the name of generating revenue I would hardly think that eight grand a meeting is all that enormous. What is the point of being repeatedly irritated by meetings most of us could do happily without if we don't get something in return instead of fricking excuses and the usual penny pinching.

The saving by using the fibre optics option amounts to well over R3million a year if you work on 8 racemeetings per week. However, I should have found out whether the satellite link can simply be there as a standby option. I will find out tomorrow.

Here is what we can look forward to in the future. We will create our own content and how we want to use and watch it. Televisions are already coming out with Youtube and social networking capabilities. I believe that in the future stations such as T track will be redundant. The cameras etc will still be there, but the user will be able to create and control the content they are after via streaming media and platforms such as Youtube, not the nonentity we are served up now.
All of this of course would be heavily reliant on internet bandwidth and SA is sadly lagging behind 1st world economies. There is an opportunity right here and now to start developing the idea. Any investors out their interested?

The fibre optic link is installed at great expense but is far more reliable than a satellite link (which can even be effected by bad weather). The satellite link can't be there on standby unless the whole fee is paid.

First they show us a suspect photo. Nico advises they will reshow the photo and when they do a graphic is splashed over it. Come on please man! Surely someone can take control over this mess!

The next race that followed in the Cape was a 1200m around a bend. They changed it at the top of the straight. (actually a 1600m)
Its just non stop inaccuracy - this lot are going to have their asses handed to them by the commissioner of the Consumer Protection act one of these days. That disclaimer now means very little with the introduction of the CPA.
