Pirates is correct. The unique set of circumstances in 2010 makes comparisons fairly pointless. However, this is not a strong field and one has to wonder whether many people are not dodging the penalty that would accrue for the July should their horse win the 1900 with its relatively uninpsiring prize money.
Hammie's Boy is one that also catches my eye at first glance, but I do like the way Fisani has been winning her races in Gauteng even if they have been against less than stellar fields of fillies and mares. I'd have liked to see In Writing have a recent run under his belt, but if close to his best he would be a huge runner as well. Let's not forget Tropical Empire, either. He has won this race before, and against the field he faces he can still prove to be too good.
I have to agree that it is highly unlikely that the July winner is in there. The only horse with half a squeak is probably In Writing, but he is well down on my July radar at the moment.

Very poor field. In Writing makes most appeal.Dean has chosen his horses very carefully for Champions season and expect his horses to be competitive in all races
they are entered .
Where are all the big guns from Gauteng? Firing blanks lol

What big guns from Gauteng? Most of the heavy artillery comes from Cape Town these days. Lol.

Surely ICE AXE would have been a massive runner here, heard this was one of his missions on route to the july

MEDIA RELEASE
11 MAY 2011
The field for the Grade 2 Betting World 1900 at Greyville Racecourse on Friday night, 20 May 2011, has trimmed down to 12 runners with champion trainer Mike de Kock holding a strong hand with three top horses.
Heading the De Kock challenge are Fisani and Alderry, first and second in the Jacaranda Handicap at Turffontein. Neither are among the entries for the Vodacom Durban July but De Kock has held back his nominations for Africa’s Greatest Horseracing Event and they could yet feature as contenders when he does.
Fisani is a four-year-old bay filly by Kahal and won the Jacaranda after being placed in the Acacia. In her last outing she ran another good race to finish in the money in a feature.
Alderry won the November Handicap showing she has plenty of talent when she puts it all together and the third member of the De Kock team, Safwan, is a four-year-old Australian gelding that has placed in three of his last four feature races.
From the Dennis Drier stable, Dance With Daylight was only just beaten in the Michael Roberts Handicap and has been a consistent performer.
Sean Tarry runs one of the leading contenders in the race in the form of Golden Chariot who has the distinction of having run a close second to Pocket Power in a Pinnacle Plate at Greyville a year ago. If anywhere near his best he will be a contender.
Hammie’s Boy from the Mike Bass yard is another runner with a big chance having run consistently well with a close second last time out to Ice Diamond in the Sledgehammer at Scottsville.
Also from the Cape is the Argentinean-bred In Writing from the Dean Kannemeyer stable. He makes his KwaZulu-Natal debut in this race but comes with useful form including places in two feature races before finishing just 3.3 lengths behind Past Master in the J&B Met.
The strong Justin Snaith yard is represented by the Silvano filly We Three who was placed in the Woolavington, Victress Stakes and Paddock Stakes.
A very competitive field which includes six Vodacom Durban July contenders. They are In Writing, We Three, Cask, Hammie’s Boy, Golden Chariot and Mahogany.
