I think you are right Frodo.....up to a point.
My experience is "there is no shit you can't solve with money" We will get it if racing is ever prepared to pay the price......and there will be a price!

Have to feel for the owners who have to wait up long hours to catch the replay.

Yip, that probably is correct; that's why I said I believe 'not ALL avenues have been explored'

I don't buy this hogwash about Multichoice objecting to a 2nd channel.

We all know Phumulela are worried that if they split the channels they will be splitting their revenue.

Let's get real here. What would do u think Phumulela would rather show, an interview with Chaim Shmerel after leading is his horse to the number 1 box or a another race from planet mars shoved down our throats to punt on.

Their model is simple, more races = more money.

We all know this is a short term mindset and they are obviously not interested in growing the game.

If they used their brains for a second and realised maybe if they gave owners, sponsors and viewers a better product maybe they would be developing something more sustainable.

Have they ever taken the time to ask the public what they want? I would assume quality and not quatity would be the obvious answer but they seem intent on providing quanity but no quality.

The easiest thing in the world is to keep finding fault in other people but when we try it ourselves it is not so easy.We must remember that we are involved in a sport that is funded in total by commisions taken from bets on the tote and by half of the punters tax collected from bookmakers. All other sports are paid huge television rights in order for their product to be shown live so that the customer can sit in the comfort of their home.Horseracing unfortunately has to pay huge money every year in order to have a channel to show the product to the punter free of charge in their homes (you have to have dstv which costs you but racing is part of package wether you watch it or not unlike indian, portuguese etc that you pay extra to add to your bouquet ) The cost of bringing tellytrack to you is bourne solely by each saftote outlet and the bookmakers. (Total cost of running tellytack divided by number of outlets and bookmakers) As owners we want to race for higher stakes and also see canter pasts, interviews etc and limited overseas races but this is not possible if we rely on the sport to be funded only on commisions and taxes from bookmakers. Rather see the positives and say thanks that at least we can see the races at home for FREE and then watch full replays and interviews afterwards.

big t. I think we all realise that we are getting something 'for free'; but that's exactly the point, I think many of us would pay to get a 2nd channel, but we are not given that choice..

My only problem with Teletrack, is the amount of Racemeetings they try to cover, there is such a thing as overexposure.
I would gladly go back to two meetings a day, where every punter had a chance to study form, take ones time over placing bets and actually enjoy the coverage.
Now it is one race after the next, and it very seldom we get a proper chance to see the Local Horses going to post, there is hardly any time spent watching horses in the Parade Ring, which is always a good indicator.
A second Channel , which catered solely for local racing would be fantastic and every Avenue should be explored to give us punters. who are the lifeblood of SA Racing, one

SG as I explained above tellytrack won't split the coverage and they believe it will hurt their revenue.

Big T I'm fully aware of the costs involved. Unfortunately your attitude that us punters and viewers should just be thankful we get to see anything on our screens is an archaic mindset that will ensure the mediocrity will continue. Your attitude smacks of arrogance.

How does tellytrack expect to grow the viewer base by offering a sub standard product. There are many sporting events to choose from on any given weekend.

Tellytrack should tie up with a national broadcaster to show weekend racing and big meetings. Give the owners, sponsors and viewers the exposure they want by creating a first class product. I have never been one to accept mediocrity, every time I turn on tellytrack that is what I see. My love and passion for the game keeps me interested but sadly in 20 years time when phumulela finally wake up it will be too late.

Why would a sponsor want to market themselves through racing if only the 232 viewers get to watch for about 3 seconds.

Take the racing to the masses!!!

When Niel P joined T Track I think he did ask these questions and I believe he gave the answers. T Track is a slot machine (A very crude summary but not far from the fact). They were honest about what it is and what T Track means to them.

As I have said before the future of race broadcasting is not what we see now. If you read all of the above the solution is clear. It seems clear to me that production value is the common cause of our gripes. We want to be able control the content and we all have different ideas on what that should be. This will never happen if left in the hands of a TV studio. The producer and paymaster will decide on what we see. It can never be possible to please all and sundry.

In future we will hopefully be able to access the broadcasting streams and manipulate the content through some or other software on computers or smart TV's. We will be able access and view single or multiple cameras. The choice between parade ring and Ngong Race 1 will be ours. We will be the producers of the content that we are viewing and stations such as T Track will be redundant. I dont discount the value of presenters. I believe they will still be needed and their commentary will be available

Our trouble right now is bandidth access. We are sadly lagging behind the rest of the world in this department.

Multichoice is a frontrunner in broadcasting and perhaps Mutichoice will develop decoders that allow for this "You be the producer" to happen. Who would have thought that you could pause live TV a few years ago?

You only have to look at how YouTube has exploded to realise this is our future reality. The future is user managed content and it is not that far away. American TV networks through the explosion of social media, Google and YouTube, have already identified this and are starting to worry.
