Brutal Force. He was an NZ import. Think he won the Derby Trial but came up against Horse chestnut in the Derby proper. Still was a beast yes!
For me nothing can come close to Jet Master. THE most imposing horse you could ever see on a race track!

I've seen so many that I'm not going to even try and pick one out. But that horse is Mavourneen's photo is definitely one of Steve Sturlese's, although I fear that I cannot even hazard a guess which one it is.

Have to agree with scotia on gondolier. He was a smashing looking horse and was a standout in the parade ring. He ran in the july an amazing five times.

Actually its a difficult call ... Torcida is really an amazing colour, isn't he? I wonder what the genetics are, I've never seen anything of this colour before. And Warm White Nights was a really gorgeous colour, he could go into the movies.
But in terms of Presence ... for me that's divided between two horses, neither of which I saw in the flesh ... Curlin and Sea the Stars. I remember in the pre-Derby lead-up, they showed a short doccie on StS and I thought WOW! And I was sorry I'd already backed something else ... forget what, it came nowhere ... because I knew in those 5 minutes I'd just seen the Derby winner. (no this is not 20-20 hindsight! I really thought, This is the one). He was imposing, glorious, quintessial Horse.

A first thought was Bend Or spots, which is genetical, but according to Wiki, Bend Or spots refer to chestnuts. Torcida Splits are possibly transitional into a full blown grey.

I must have a look see ... sometimes its a colour that's inherited but sometimes a colour PATTERN is genetic, like Siamese in cats (light body, dark points, but the points can be a variety of actual colours). Have to check it out ... good excuse to delay vaccuming the flat this Sunday!

Torcida Split is by Victory Moon out of A National Emblem Mare called United Frontier. She is grey, her first foal, TS full brother, was a chestnut and her 3rd foal by Tobe Or Nottobe was a dark bay.

I've had a lot of fun looking up horse coat colours on the Internet ... shuu, it's complicated! Re Torcida Splits, nearest I could come was something called Leopard spotting, subtype snowflake ... but only one pic I saw looked like at all it (
bmhr.net/bmhr-web/images/Reference_Photo...loosa/snowflake1.jpg
) and none of the descriptions talked about it occurring on a grey. Bend Or spots puzzle me totally ... the definition (Wikipedia) is of a few DARK spots several cm across, but the photo of Bend Or shows a horse with lots of small light-coloured flecks just like Torcida's.

I seem to think for some strange reason the horses name is Invincible Spirit??? Not sure why though.
