Only 13 fatalities annually resulting from breakdowns in races ! Yes that is just what the public sees, how many horses get put down behind the scenes that the public doesn't know about ?
Like what you said Alcaponee (tu)
Just have a look at Macau or Hong Kong where every horse has a brand number an it's trackwork and form are avaliable to the public online, if Hong Kong gets 400 new horses then 400 have been retired ( in one way or another ) so where do these 400 odd horses end up !?

Thanks Rob, no one has phoned me yet to let me know. Now have to look again for a replacement jockey at a light weight.

FR, I contacted them once with that question and was told most of them go to riding school(s). Presumably those are the ones that are sound physically and mentally ... don't know about the others. But the Club was quite pleasant in their answer and also they answered my email within a few days. That alone gives me confidence, unlike the local attitude that you are a pest and a pain and have no right to even ask a question..
