Racing Post
RECORD-BREAKING mare Goldikova bagged a 14th win at the highest level with an historic fourth successive victory in the Prix Rothschild.
In doing so, the wondermare became the first horse, since the European Pattern was introduced in 1971, to win the same top-level race four times in a row in France as she trounced her rivals under regular rider Olivier Peslier.
This was also a landmark win for Peslier as he brought up his own personal century of top flight wins, the pair scoring in cosy fashion from the fast-finishing Sahpresa with the Sir Henry Cecil-trained Timepiece back in third.
Peslier settled the six-year-old inbehind pacemaker Flash Dance and made his move up to join that one inside the final three furlongs. At that stage Goldikova was still cruising along under her jockey and she stretched clear of the pack under a hands and heels ride in the final furlong before being eased down late on.
Although Sahpresa got close to the Freddy Head-trained superstar, the Falmouth Stakes runner-up, who was reversing the form with Timepiece, having finished a length and a quarter behind Khalid Abdullah's filly at Newmarket, was flattered by her proximity to the winner with Peslier taking his foot right off the gas when the race had been put to bed.
