Graham Beck bought back his own horse at last year's National Sale - Devine's Jet, which is yet to race. The price was over R4-million. The horse was re-sold at auction, after Beck's demise, for R1-m, but I have no idea who ended up with it. As far as I am aware it has yet to race. Mike Azzie bought the Singspiel colt, Potala Palace, also bred at Highlands Stud, for R3,6-m.
I think he has been very conservative in the way he has nurtured this horse and allowed him to develop and he and his connections deserve every success with him. Dubai, however, can be very tough on a horse and it would be nice to think that he will stay in SA as a three-year-old and only go there when he is a more mature four-year-old. That issue may be forced, as things stand, by current AHS regulations. It will be virtually impossible for Potala Palace to go the Mauritian route and be readied in time for a tilt at the next Dubai Carnival, which will begin around February next year. Current regulations require horses to spend 3 months in Mauritius (which can be very beneficial for them, at this time of the year) and then a further period in Europe, but there is still a possibility that the Dubaian racing authorities may allow SA horses to enter that country direct from Mauritius or possibly even from Cape Town via a third country.

Gotta agree with Pirates . Too boot he has only won in the soft . The question is if he acts on dirt and synthetic ? If yes then the sky would be the limit in Dubai . Still many questions to be answered .I hope though for the connections that he is a star and repays them the initial investment .That is just toooo much money !!! .

I do Mr Hawaii, we bought a horse the same time for 2 grand and it was a 4 time winner, if not mistaken the R1M purchase only won a maiden, on the other hand I never had a National Currency or Potala Palace (
)
We did take a bus load of friends to the track for her maiden win, following the Hawaii syndicate theme.

i think the amount was more like 520k which was big at the time - a fair second hand car was around the 5k mark at the time - this horse taught me the greatest lesson in racing - "Back horses using your eyes not your ears!!!"

he ran a poor fourth in the nursery and ended up in PE I think Martin Locke was a member of the syndicate - Being about 18 at the time I had won a Jackpot for R700 rands and decided this horse was the key to me buying a good second hand car so I backed this Champ at the crazy odds on 16-10 - should have taken the places but the best R700 i ever did as I then stopped listening to anything a Jockey, trainer or owner said unless they told me their horse was injured!!

Neighmaster ,Devine Jet was bought back by the Devines for 1bar at the GB dispersal sale, Mr Beck was being sarcastic naming it Devine Jet and the Devines weren't to impressed, they apparently reported it to the NHA
