Because horses do not run on paper!!!!.....would never have given it a 2nd glance either but I spent 3 days in the company of the owner
he is passionate man, mad about the game and has confidence in his trainers. He was told horse was working very well and I included it in
my play.....well done Eddie a well deserved win. Pity I went out of P6 in the last. Jackpot a small consolation.

Muhtiman, I agree horse do not run on paper and congratulations to the owner and trainer, but unfortunately for Aurum this is a plated race and doesn't have a maximum 8 point penalty. Based on lines with the second and third horse Aurum could be running off a merit rating around 80 in her next start. If she has made the improvement from a 60 to an 80 it won't be a problem for her to be competitive.
We always talk about placing horses well, has this happened with Aurum. She is a horse that comes with a timed late run and would never win by huge margins. If she was run in a handicap and won by a lenght she would probably go up to a 64 winning next time out go to a 68. Aurum could have had 4 or 5 wins before hitting the mark she will run off now for only 1 win. If my horse would be heavily under sufference in a plated race I would not be happy with my trainer for running it in the race as even if the horse runs third or fourth will incur a penaly.

You are spot on, Pirates. If that was no flash in the pan she would (at least in theory) be very well in if she races in a handicap next time out. Not that races are run on paper - using similar logic Magnanimous on his last run should have won by a street yesterday.
