AUSTRALIA'S sprint phenomenon Black Caviar (Peter Moody/Luke Nolen) took her unbeaten streak to 16 with yet another comfortable victory at Flemington on Saturday.

The Group 1 Patinack Farm Classic over the straight 6f was the five-year-old's number one target at the Melbourne spring carnival and she never looked in any danger of defeat.

Buffering took them along in the A$1m (£645,000) highlight until Black Caviar strode past in effortless fashion a furlong and a half out and strolling clear to score in a time of 1m08.32s for the 1,200 metres.

Sent off 1-25, she beat Buffering by two and three-quarter lengths. "She's just one helluva horse," said trainer Peter Moody.

"She can only race what's there and they're all Group horses behind her and once again she's toyed with them.

"It's unbelievable the people she's bringing to the races - she's great for our sport. I'm just grateful to be a little part of it."

Moody, who is keen to run Black Caviar over 7f, is planning to give Black Caviar one more outing this year in Perth's Winterbottom Stakes before sights are trained on Royal Ascot in 2012 after her autumn campaign.

"She's a bit hard to get a measure on but she's pulled up clean in her wind and she didn't have a stressful run," he said. "She'll tell us in the next 48 hours if we go to Perth or give her a break.

"But she has only had three runs and 16 altogether for a five-year-old - she's not overraced by our standards. The race is there for her as long as we don't feel it will be detrimental to her.

Jockey Luke Nolen admitted to feeing the pressure, despite such a comfortable victory.

"There is the expectation as she's got a flawless record and you want to keep it intact," he said.

"They expect her to win and you just don't want to let anyone down," he added. "I'm just over the moon. She's done a fantastic job - she was in control a long way out - and she's a great ambassador for Australian racing. I think we really have to appreciate this horse."

The Australasian record for consecutive victories at top-level tracks is 19, held jointly by Desert Gold and Gloaming. However, both Miss Petty and Sava Jet won 22 on the spin at low-grade Queensland bush tracks.

She won by 2.75 lengths at odds of 1/25.

Oops, Scotia beat me to it. Up bright and early again, Dave?
