EISH Mr Irwin u should not complain (even though i am in total agreement with u ) , At least u still get a mention now and again ,
Small owners like me don't even exist and if u are a real nobody like me Ur horses never run anywhere but last . I bred 2 Silvano fillies which have just turned 3 and i have still not sent them to racing because seriously if they come over that finishing line last i will shoot myself,
so i figured i will just use my imagination and say IF they had raced they would have been SUPERSTARS it seems a better option than watching my horses run last all the time .Please remember South Africans are like crabs in a bucket always pulling each other down ....

Barry is not wrong. The lack of commitment just proves that the leadership and drive is missing in our sport.

How many times do we start something and then let it fizzle before it gets a chance to take root?

Barry is relentless at driving his enterprise. Micky at his. Bookmakers at theirs. in fact, all the private people who MUST make it happen, do.

There was a time when they still sold newspapers at the robots (Traffic lights, Barry) and they would have posters up on Friday evenings about the weekend racing and often the headline would be the name of the big star running that weekend, or a carryover amount or similar. In my previous life I would buy all the weekend newspapers to cut out the many different articles to add to my photo library for the winners of those races. There were many journalists and newspapers had racing departments and racing editors.

We've lost all that, and now we buy space to have a semblance of what we had, and still hardly an effort. On the Internet where space is unlimited and costs almost nothing, still hardly an effort.

And when the private people try, THEY try to shut them down. You can't talk to them, reason with them, because we are the enemy. Go figure.

Good luck Barry.

It is indeed a very sad state of affairs, but the media still loves a worthy product!
It is up to racing to produce that product, and,to this end,it is failing badly.

Newspapers print what people want to read - Bottom line the amount of people that want to read about racing has dropped to nothingness - The only way that you will get the media to write about racing is to pay them (advertising) - Racing needs to be the Coca-Cola of the gambling industry - If you stop advertising someone else will surely fill that gap like the Casino's and Lotto have done and steal the Caviar before you can say"And away they go" I wonder if Joshua Doore only advertises it's wares in trade papers and one Trade Paper?
