Say what you want about Smith, but in situations like these, when the chips are seriously down, there aren't many captains (or batsmen for that matter,)in the world that can dig as deep as him to score a ton to ensure his sides victory.

I have just one question... What the hell was AMLA thinking? Would have been the cherie on the cake for me had he stayed in and Smith getting the 100. Selfishness leading to stupidity there, imvho

Credit where credit is due - he dugged down deep and proved me wrong and the same could be said of Philander - when I saw him in the team I thought the selectors have gone mad - but to say that Smith is our greatest captain ever is pushing it a bit - just my opinion
Must be one of the most bizarre test matches ever - very happy that we are 1-0 up (tu)

Very few 5 Test match series to come over the next few years. IPL and 20/20 have seen to that.

away victories against the poms and oz he opens the batting and avges 50 over 90 tests says it all ...which other sa cpt in the modern era can boast that for a test record...pollock hansie wessels way behind him...against oz in perth he got a 100 chasing 400 against the poms he hit 150 not out in last innings to win us the series and now today ...people dont like him cos of his body language and off field antics fcuk them i say as long as he produces on the field and his team play positive aggresive cricket unlike they played under the rest of our captains...wessels would have reached 20 by now if he was batting and we would be 100 for 6

So you still think that Smith should quit after yet another great knock?

Unlike some of us who can never admit it when we 're wrong, I did admit he proved me wrong and on that knock certainly deserves his spot in the test team - however you must admit it's been a while since his previous 'great knock' - also his fielding is not what it used to be imo, so I definitely believe the right decision has been made in stripping him of the one-day captaincy - in fact I don't think he should be selected in those teams. I also think the selectors should start considering who is going to be our next test captain and start grooming him - perhaps the Sri Lanka tour coming up would be a good starting point.
