I remember when I first started betting on US and SA racing I had to look up all the new betting terms on the net after a while, I was getting utterly confused reading various forums at times. All those swingers, trifectas, exacta and even the PA (when its so obvious) through me for a bit.

Some are easy to guess but I'd end up looking up just to compare and see if my initial guess was right.

Just out of interest is the L15 a common type of bet in SA racing or the other various levels that exist of the L15 format? (trixie, canadian, goliath etc).

Daas welcome...

I would say NO, L15 is not a common bet type in SA and 90% of punters would not know what you talking about regarding trixies, canadians etc...

I had my biggest win ever on a Lucky 15. i had £5 ew and had winners at 10/1, 9/1, 11/1 and 7/1 with bet 365...to top it off they gave a 15% bonus for 4 winners. I dont think i wilnd in do it again(i have tried). Then i had to send in photocopies of my passport and driving licence.they took 3 weeks to pay me and then closed my account. i will be doing one today at cheltenham...good luck today chaps

Thanks Greg,

Something like hearing about swinger bets, I'd never come across before and didn't have a clue what type of bet it was before I looked it up but the name makes sense after I had.

Always interests me the various bet types over the different countries or the various names they go by.

These bets are bread and butter for bookmakers.
The L15 for starters is a mug bet.....no stretches in combo bets so why not take your 4 individual bets,as stand alone bets(at least a double stretch with Interbet most of the time).
What you are left with is a yankee which is 11 bets, but if ,for example your first selection loses, you are only 25% wrong,so far, but 63% of your bets(7) are in the bin..............................if you get 2 right (ie. 50% right) you win 1 double(ie.9% of your bets succeed)

There have been a few Yankee bet compo's on the site........check the results!

By the time most guys get a nice win ,it is in reality, more often than not, a partial refund.......lol

I agree its a mug bet, But i cant resist when UK bookies offer Triple the odds on one winner. If you back a 5/1 winner and the other 3 lose, you get your money back. We all dream of the big one dont we?

I'd also agree its a mugs bet but much like dave when there' s a offer on or there's a good jumps meeting I can't resist a L15 just to keep the day interesting. I've actually got one on today for Cheltenham, though I 'm going to be backing most of the horses in it with decent single bets also come race time.

As for the Goliath, I'll put forward Cantlow 3:10 Cheltenham @ 7/1
