The ones that matter are there. The thing with WFA races is why do we need to see fields flooded with entries that can't win? One of the best SA Guineas ever run at Greyville had six runners - if I recall, three of them were Elevation, In Full Flight, and Sentinel.

It's different with handicaps or races where the weights make it feasible for an "inferior" horse to win, but even with 7 entries there are one or two that don't appear to have a realistic chance. And with fields tending to crowd the outside in Kenilworth sprints at the moment, the fewer runners there are to cause traffic problems for the principals the better (not that Val De Ra is likely to be coming from off the pace, but still.>:D

We've seen races like the King George and the Arc with five or six runners at times. Doesn't stop them from being won by champions.

And of course there were only four other horses in the field when Secretariat ran arguably the most astonishing race of all time to win the Belmont by 31 lengths. Flooding quality races with outclassed horses really doesn't achieve much.
