So if she bled internally the vet must have missed it coz she is not blocked...what part of that statement is confusing you???

PIRATES ,SOMETIMES U MAKE COMMENTS ,JUST FOR THE SAKE OF IT..WITHOUT ANY SENSE....WHAT TITCH SAID WAS CORRECT....WE HAVE TO ASSUME THAT SHE NEVER BLED..SINCE SHE IS NOT SUSPENDED....AND THE WORD ASSUME WAS SAID IN THE THE CORRECT CONTEXT...BECAUSE IT COULD VERY WELL BE THAT SHE BLED INTERNALLY...SO THERE WE SAY ..WE ASSUME SHE NEVER BLED...ON WHAT INFORMATION WE HAVE FROM THE STIPES AND VET...NOW THATS WHERE IT STOPS FOR US LAYMEN....AND FOR U TO THROW OTHER SPANNERS IN THE WORKS..MAKES ME FEEL...IF TITCH SAID TODAY IS THURSDAY...JUST BECAUSE HE SAID IT...U WILL SAY...NO..ITS THURSDAY MORNING

titch i bow down to your lawyer skills but please maybe the official race cards should now publicise the heights of the race horses in future so us mugs dont back as you say shetland ponys...and in closing you right bleeding internally and a throat infection dont stop horses in a race they just cough for the fun of it...maybe you should go into a parade ring after a race and count and listen to a horse cough but then again you know it all pal ...

Just because a horse doesn't bleed out the nose and is not suspended does not mean it is not bleeding internally. Coughing under stress (when racing or working) is usually a sign of internal bleeding, as Craig Eudey said - and he should know.

Unless the Vet sees the blood coming the nostrils he does not know that the horse has bled without scoping it. If the horse has left the parade ring and it has coughed but no blood visible you are pretty sure you are ok and wont be suspended. I would guess that about 90% of horses that bleed will not show it by blood coming out of the nostrils. Some dont even cough.

Would the horse not be scoped the following day to confirm the bleed/

Within a few hrs it would have stopped bleeding and by then there would be no trace of blood at all in the majority of cases.

Craig is it true that a vast majority of horses bleed but to a lesser degree in races??

to complicate matters even further there was an incident a few years ago in the cape where a horse ownedby brett maselle and trained by greg ennion was given a 3 mth suspension cos she had some blood trickling out her nose after the race however the trainer said she doesnt bleed called his vet out with a scope to the course got her scoped and she was clear and the suspension was overturned ...she could have hit her head against the stalls which caused the bleeding
