The reason why JJ wasn't put in any prep is for the price!!!
If they put hm in a prep run and he demolished the field, lyk JJ style, he would be less than evens, lyk he normally is in SA!! And the stable can't hva punt!!
Lyk wt hapened whn he last cme dwn4 overseas..ran in the golden horse shoe sprint, 5/1.. Demolished field..next race..3/10

As I've already said, the clock is ticking with JJ and it is a lot to ask that he can still be at his absolute best after all this time, what with injuries, age, etc. I'd love to see him win, and I'm sure they wouldn't take him all the way to Cape Town if they didn't think he could be very competitive, but we need to be a little careful.
I also seriously doubt that Lucky plans JJ's campaigns with betting odds in mind. The fact that the Golden Horse is a handicap and the Mercury Sprint is WFA had a lot to do with the difference in SPs the last time JJ made a comeback in South Africa. In any case, I believe that he is really at his best over 1200m. He laboured to win the Computaform Sprint on soft ground, and personally I have my doubts that he has ever been as good a 1000m horse as Val De Ra.
Much will depend in the Cape Flying Championship on whether the south-easter is pumping, but I have the feeling that (sentiment aside) one of the other two will almost certainly win.

It's not just age, it's the injury that JJ has to overcome to take on two outstanding speed horses. Trust me, he will need to be as close to his best as makes no difference to beat Val De Ra over 1000m, especially if conditions are quick on the day.
But I'm sure looking forward to watching him try!(

Thanks Sheza - but Lucky is no mug and there must still be a reason why he's going all the way to Cape Town. That said, WFA sprints are few and far between and there's very little else for JJ before the Computaform.
