the difference is the sand track. on gras in america the inside track is also better.
and the second difference is, that their circles are more narrow. so the inside horse has a lot to fight to stay inside. the outside horse can galopp freely

I understand that but the outside horse has to cover a lot more yardage in order to be competitive, and that imo is the problem in SA. The further they go without cover the harder it is for them to do well. In the Us they race without cover and win easily......

Perhaps I need to do more investigating regarding the difference the surface makes.
