Very well put Garrick...........everybody can see the merits of your assessment............why is it that not an ounce of that sort of logic is evident in the ongoing strategy of horseracing?

Both.. Horseracing is mos also a sport but sports like Rugby, Cricket ect. gets a lot of attention. The only time you see a lot of people at horseracing or a horseracing event on tv (not tellytrack), is when it's the Durban July

And majority of those ppl with fancy hats and coats will never have a bet on a horse or attend a racemeeting again until the next july or met.too many sideshows @ the big racedays and no emphasis is placed on the horse

When watching TT the presenters will go on about betting slides, pools, dividends, etc. it's all about the money and less about the horse. how can a novice to racing appreciate the competition amongst the athletes when all that is preached is betting betting betting. Then watch football and listen to the analysis hugely different to racing. Intelligent racing analysts like Bloomberg only get given a platform once in a blue moon....

I believe the Tote has a lot to do with that, every Bet that is struck on the Tote [win, lose or draw] is subjected to a loss of 25%
Every Fav or at least almost every Fav that is shorter than 2/1 with the Bookie, shows Odds On on the Tote, when you take a Sports Bet, you know what Odds you are getting and there are very few Non Runners, on the Tote the price the Horse is showing, sometimes even after the Race is finished is dropped, with the excuse that it is Overseas money that has changed the price [absolute Bollocks, or Overseas punters are geniuses]
Sports Betting, especially in running, gives you the chance to recoup your losses if you have the balls to strike another Bet which could either save you, or drown you.
