Indeed it is. However, that race yesterday reinforces the value of sectional timing. It really would be informative to get the various splits, even just between the first half and the second. Part of the problem with this race may also be that with so few races over 3200m some jockeys may have doubted the stamina of their mounts and overdid the waiting. One rider who can be absolved is surely Glen Hatt, because Orchard House was off the bit and going nowhere fast before they even turned for home.

No doubt the pace in the 3200 was a joke but Two Strikes blatantly doesn't stay the trip as he has shown on numerous occasions, the only reason he was even in the betting was due to the riding arrangements but how the hell was he priced up favourite?? the horse had absolutely no chance on exposed form
Give everything but up!

In the UK and Europe it is almost a basic pre-requisite of a decent horse that it should get up to two miles. It seems unfortunate, therefore, that a number of other jurisdictions with plenty of money on offer tend to focus on shorter distances. This appears to promote the breeding of purely speed horses. Australia, in particular, seem to be guilty of this.
South Africa too does not tend to breed many stamina horses. So staying races are few and far between. Chicken and egg? That's a pity as it has been my unscientific experience that form is easier to assess over these distances. Which has the potential to create a better betting market as punters will be more likely to trust their selections and calculations than in shorter races where even the tiniest setback or incident ( eg fractionally slow away ) can result in your selection failing to perform as assessed.
I continue to argue that - despite poor stakes - ownership in the UK and France offers better options. If he/she cannot perform on the flat there are often pleasant suprises in store over the hurdles or jumps.

About time that some one from the outside like MJ Odendaal shook up a race and poured on the pace....that horse In Writing and several like it, owed me but never get a chance when no pace is on. Last week we also saw the best of Croc Valley who also was able to spout wings when the pace was on....I've said it before that very good horses in the Cape retire with less than medocre form because they land up plodding from race to race.....:

Taking the blinkers off In Writing could also have helped him.

Some things just never change. An extract from this week's Sporting Post's 20 Years Ago: Sands Of Time - March 1992
"Cape stayer Regal Satisfaction wins the Gr3 Chairmans Handicap at Kenilworth by an unprecedented seventeen lengths. The race is run over 3200m, and apprentice ridden Regal Satisfaction goes to the front very early on, with the rest of the jockeys apparently thinking he’d come back to his field".

(But I still do not agree with the subject title of this thread).
