I don't think Anthony is being pushed aside by MDK..
Anthony had loads of respect for MDK if u listen to all his post race interviews he always refers to MDK as 'My Boss' I think its merely giving other jocks a chance, such as Appie and Davids even Gavin gets rides with MDK..

MDk has often matched horses to Jocks - Herholdt, Figgs, Appie, that chap from Cpt who rides so many 4ths, Greyling(frikkie) etc, Smith - he knows what he's doing

Mr Hawaii & others. What I am talking about is MDK's early career. He was in the right place at the right time when Ricky Howard-Ginsberg passed away suddenly. The very influencial Colin Dunn did MDK great favours wrt a Trainers License, canvasing the other owenrs to give MDK a chance, etc. MDK was at the time Assistant Trainer with MR R H_G. Those were early days and people who knew him in those days will tell you he was a hot headed guy, IMVHO this in itself is not necassary a negative trait. I first met Sakkie in the late Bobby Sage's stable which was a long time ago.
I have followed MDK progress from the 'outside' and have nothing but admiration for his GREAT achievements and the way he now conducts himself in front of the camera.
I am not being negative towards MDK but I have have never heard any recognition from him to the part played by individuals that developed him to what he is today, being them Jockey Club presidnets, Trainers, Jockeys, ex patrons etc.
In MDK's early years as a Trainer where were all the owners from across the world. He was, and still and will always be a dedicated HORSEMAN and I wish him all the best, I just wish that he could be a little humble and acknowledge those that formed and assisted him in his formative years, and there were many.

Fogwils - why keep dwelling on De Kock's past, who helped him and who did not. I think it does not count a thing today as in my book he is in the top 3 trainers in our lifetime. He is a genius and knowing the man he knows who helped him to succeed and have said thank you on many a occasion. He does not have to say it on TV everytime. Lets enjoy his successes and be happy for him and SA.
I did not mean to attack or be ugly - had no other way of putting it....

MDK;s first move when he took over the Ricky Howard Ginsberg string was to fire the then stable jockey Christy Bloem he never has and never will let a jock dictate to him, something that imo should be applauded..and even if he did get some help in his early days as a trainer that help wasnt misused he has taken SA racing to a completely different level.. and if he never had The Sheik behind him he would be just as successful ...The Sheik never pulled the name MDK out of a hat,,,

Gregs, I mean, maybe he can't make the weight or the horse is top weight and to negate that they need a light weight/appie to ride.

Thanks for the info Titch, my theory regarding weight is wrong. Didn't know Anthony rode 52,5.

yep u stirring.mdk would rather fly up honest karl than use striker.in fact b4 mdk became famous he used honest karl for features in jhb.mdk became famous with horse chestnut and marwing as stable jock, as b4 he was just an avg trainer and the main trainers were d ferraris and tony millard.
incidentally d ferraris used striker until striker messed up in cape guineas on classic flag and ferraris then used a delpech who went on to win his 1st july on classic flag with 53kgs and 18 draw.1st 3yr old to carry more than 52kgs in july.now delpech is stable jock to mdk and imo best mdk has had.
