The top 3 colts from CT are rated to carry 3 to 4kgs more than the rest.

It's probably wrong. When they all meet it is going to be a matter of how the Handicapper tries to recover from a cock up. Silver Flyer was the link but wasn't fully himself and Gimme neither did Gimme look to run a 117. The pressure is on because the final is a handicap.

The July is more likely these days to be won by a 3yo even though they carry more and more weight each passing year.

Last year there were 11 older horses and 8 3yo's. 3yos ran 1-3-4, and two 3yo fillies ran within 2.5 L. The year before 3yo's ran 1-2-3-4-5. Before that the 3yo's didnt do so well but Dancer's Daughter was technically 3.5 yo'. 3yo like Igugu can do well because they have scope to improve, but you have to wonder how much wiggle room was left in the Cape this year.

Earning ratings like 118,117 and 116 in December....amazing. The only reason it can happen is that the handicapper is allowed to stop rating after the 4th horse in a race, so they can make the winner 118 if he can ignore the 6th horse (rated 92) some 6 L behind and happily forget that the unlikely 118 would make the 92-horse a 106 and so is probably wrong.

Titch, i feel the same way..... but it is not a 'qualified' opinion. Is just I am not so sure about the quality of the fields he beat. IMO Variety Club had had too much racing by the time the Derby came around ...... I will reserve judgement until I see him race around a right hand bend in KZN.... but will not take 7/2 about him antepost.

CastleThorpe could be every1s spook in the VDJ?
Watched him win yesturday, was tooo easy.. And as well, ithey don't know his best distance.
I feel he will get the 2200m easily, he stayed on well last year, even though was badly hampered with.. And if they set a sedate pace...it will play right into his hand,as a sprint to the finish, and he will be home and hosed.. Watch this fellow..I was never big on him after he let me down last season..but seems to be coming on the right way
