Not getting into the what Natal would have been like without the Cape but just bear that in mind.

R57,000 in 2006 is worth R82, 742 today (based on cpi).
So stakes in KZN have reduced by 33.3% in real terms.

I own one of the " lesser lights " a MR 66 sand horse, gelding, his last sand race was on 05 april ( ran unplaced after 3 month rest ) the next AVAILABLE sand race for him ( from 1450 - 2000 m ) is on 29 May a MR 65 over 1600m.

hopefully he gets a run if there's not more that 30 - 40 nominations. So I have exactly 2 x races to select from in 2 x months.
What happened to the abundance of sand races in the winter / off season ? I can see that he is destined for Kimberley SOON, or he must get out.

if my unraced baby ( i have shares ) does not turn out to be a 3 or 4 time winner, i guess it's time to call it a day, & get out of owning........ a small time punter I will probably always be.

WILL I BE ANYWHERE NEAR THE UPCOMING SALES ? ..................... YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING !

My point exactly, Elvis. Why should your gelding have fewer racing opportunities than a MR55.....? Which one do I want to see run or included? Yours, obviously.

But, it's always difficult catering for one particular horse.

Our Winter Programme offers the following -
May - 10 Turf and 3 Sand
June - 8 Turf and 4 Sand
July - 8 Turf and 3 Sand
Aug - 6 Turf and 4 Sand
Sept - 7 Turf and 5 Sand

That's 50 % Sand ( 39 Turf, 19 Sand )

In the really hard going months, Sand increases, eg Aug and Sept
