1 can only hope...
GR1 rides in SA VERY elusive due to lack of loyalty in lower handicaps.
had a few close calls overseas
went down a head in the Qatar International Cup and a neck to Johnny Murtagh in Emirates Championship.
i was 1st SA jock under 30 to ride in a GR1 at a Dubai World Cup and 4th in Qatar's Emirs Sword, World's Richest Arabian Race, US$1million at 1 time
at the time i was riding the 2nd string of horses trained for MAN CITY owner, HH Sheik Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, so i am very happy that they won on the w-end!!!

Great stuff Chippy..btw ur ride on Dadewethu, tops!!!
Atleast ur getting great practice(workout) in the form of a 86km gallop.lol.
Which ever trainer you riding for after the comrades will have to say:'horse is doing well galloped with winners, got tallent..and jockey doing well as well, had a 86km gallop the other day, should go close'..
Lol, all the best with the riding and more importantly with the Comrades

@ Magi, FOR SURE.
i did another 19kms on saturday while in PE for Derby W-end. ran from Arlington to Fairview, not after run therapy and was good to go on sun riding at 52kgs. pity my rides at the mo cant run as well. was hoping today would change that!
i wont take rides lighter than 54kgs on the fri or sat before or the tues after, otherwise business as usual. the more rides i have before the better for the legs. i have already excused myself from training on the Monday though!!!

Anyway, Chip....hat's off to you buds !!! Is a really tough race and you get intimate with yourself on that course. I look after our elite athletes and when we are discussing Two Oceans or any marathon I always tell them they must remember that (in the case of Comrades) the halfway mark is roughly 60km's..... so you still want to be feeling pretty strong at that stage. It is wayyyyy tooo easy to go out too fast.
Are you going to let us know your chip number so we can follow your progress online ?? Or can one do that by name alone ? or the Race entry number perhaps ??

thats why i have been doing these pacing runs... cant go too fast... or too slow. my knees hurt if a run slower than 8mins/km, better off walking. i will be happy to get to 60kms fresh as that marker is right down our road!!!
if not, i have ordered an ice bath and will sit in it for 15mins before i carry on
i will post all relevant info once i have my race package and will Tweet and message on ABC before the start and once ive gone past halfway so that i can enjoy the finish.
PS i get intimate in the sauna after 2 hours of sweating and still have another 300 grams to lose... now THATS TOUGH!
the mind is ready, the heart rate is down to 42 BPM and the body will only find out on the day but needs a good workout anyway.
