Taking a percentage makes sense but if the amount of bets exceeds the payout then even if you win, you loose.

Why would you take a percentage of a P/A with let's say 1000 + perms when the average payout is probably R300 tops! (I stand to be corrected on the avg p/a payout)?

i won't say I am a king, but I do manage to catch the P6 now and then albeit for small %, but i will rather get something than nothing.
Here is the one I played today if you are interested.
1/2/3/5/10 x 1/2/3/4/9/ x 1/3/7//8/12//15/1/18 x 1/4/5/6/ x 1/3/4/5/6/7/8 x 1/2/3/4/5/6/7/8/9//11/13/15//16/1/7/1/8 =R735; 1%
with PE the couplings is disadvantage and advantage, if fav's wins and it is coupled payout low but if you beat fav with an outsider that is not coupled then you win big, so today i might battle to get my money back but if you notice in the first leg i have no 10 in, Mr Uren has given me quite a bit of large P6 payout over the years and i try too include his horses when i can afford it, this horse tries distance for the 1st time and Yeni up, first race not bad, breeding ok, that is why I have included it and if it wins the P6 will be off to good start.

You could play that perm 0,01% for R7,35 and if it wins then get the same return on investment

May be I am stupid, I do not understand:S it is 1% FOR R735 FOR R7.35 you get 0.01% and you can not even play that on the tote

If that perm you layed out cost R735-00 for 1% then the full bet would have to cost R73500-00 and to get to 0.01% you would divide it by 1000 which would total R7,35.
I have never tried to bet 0.01% at a tote so your guess is as good as mine as to whether they would accept it.

You could really be the king of the Pick Six by playing the field x 6 everyday except for christmas day @ 6 bucks a day for 0,000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001%
It would only cost you R2184 per year (364 days x R6-00)
You would never lose and and all of your selections would always be correct!
You would put The Whisperer (Matthew Stevens) out of business.
You could do all of the selections on tv, newspapers ect.
And no-one could say that you don't put your money where your mouth is because you would take those coins out of your wallet and have a bet a day!
It would only cost you R2184 per year (364 days x R6-00)

My objection to all 'pre-packaged' exotic bets is this : You are going to have to include events (legs) where you either do not have an opinion or alternatively did not really wish to be involved.
After many years of punting the only advantages that multiples have that I have been able to determine are largely psychological :
1.) Once you have committed to the bet you have to see it through - like it or not. ( You will, however, usually note that if you had played the bet leg-by-leg your odds might have been better! ).
2.) You are usually able to get on a reasonably substantial bet without unnecessary difficulty.
Furthermore - unless you bet in a similar fashion to the tactics employed by lottery players ( ie pot luck ) then the construction of what is in essence an ATC from a range of your own choices using fixed odds is probably the best way to do it.
