CHAMPION mare Black Caviar has suffered two muscle tears and severe bruising to her hind quarters in her famous win in the Group 1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot on Sunday.
Trainer Peter Moody confirmed Black Caviar had pulled up sore after her narrow win.
Veterinarians inspected the mare this morning at her Newmarket stable base and located the muscle injury and bruising.
Moody said he was unsure at what stage of the race Black Caviar suffered her injuries.
However, the trainer said veterinarians had informed him “she would have definitely felt it during the run”.
“She’s had something like this before,” Moody said.
“She’s entering quarantine today, we’re sending her home, but we’ll be able to have the injuries treated whilst she’s in quarantine.”
In hindsight, given the vagaries of travel, Nolen’s riding blunder and the injuries the mare sustained during the race, the Diamond Jubilee Stakes may now go down as one of her greatest ever wins.

Great horse even after a very poor ride at end of race the true champion herself came to the fore and stuck that head out not to be passed..I Love Black Caviar!

I was there and it was great to feel the buzz of the whole occasion. It was hard not to be swept up by the Black Caviar fever and whatever anyone says the great mare delivered on the big stage. We can talk about ratings, comparisons with Frankel, the quality of the opposition and whatever but sometimes even the best have off days. Her class and heart pulled her through in the end.
She was clearly not herself before loading and I'm sure she didn't love the ground which would definitely not been as good as what she encountered in Oz. Considering she injured herself in the race and was not ridden out properly I would say she is definitely the champ we all thought she was.
I don't agree with those who say she was running on empty. When the jock woke up 20 yards from the line she found extra. I have no doubt in my mind that the pilot error cost her at least 2 lengths and we would all be saying how she coasted to victory.I also have no doubt that if any sprinter takes her on in Oz she will destroy them.
The mares victory was celebrated all over Australia, even my relations in South Africa who know less than nothing about racing were asking me about Black Caviar and were excited that she won. The media here have been punting her for the last month and it just shows what a champion can do for racing. I hope the racing authorities in SA take note and learn that everyone loves a champion and people will flock to the course to see one if they know about it!

Well said Saksy .
In my opinion if she had stayed for the July cup she wins it easy . A pity she is going back to aus , but realy understandable given all that she went through .

Had to be something wrong. As I said she did not look like the mare we had seen race in Aus. More than just a bad ride from the jockey.

I'm with Craig on this one, and the jockey too. Both reckon BC had had enough at the end of that race. And if she had torn muscles that's hardly surprising, she must have been eina. Together with the unaccustomed soft going she must have been badly wanting to stop.
I'd like to have seen how she reacted when she was pulled up, whether she stopped with relief or did she pull to keep on going? Unfortunately I didn't think to look at the time. But it would have told a story.
Perhaps I'm a silly old romantic, wanting to imagine she had given her all and pulled out one last gasp to win ... but actually when I watched the replays last night, that's just what I think did happen.

Agree with Saksy - she was not running on empty; just a kak ride and sore with her torn muscles. Considering these variables and flying over 000s of miles this, IMO, is her best win ever..

She could return to racing. Injury doesn't seem to be that serious
