If Jackson is not handily placed, about 4 to 5 lengths off them turning into the straight, he won't win the July. Reason i say this, in the Derby, with the Kenilworth long straight, he took an eternity to overhaul Variety Club, likewise in the Daily News, he only caught and passed Vettel in the last 220m or so. Admittedly once he caught both horses, he won going away, however in the July, i have this sneaky feeling someone is going to try and steal the race whilst Jackson tries to navigate his way through the traffic for that clear run, by then, it may be in vain.

I never checked the weights of previous winners and was only listening to the so called experts on tv, but if Terence Millard says that it can't win i'll be with him as he's trained many july winners and think he knows what he's talking about

I guarantee you Mr Millard said last year a 3 year old filly cannot win with 55,5 kg's on her back.

As Pirates points out up until the last decade or so the top weight was 58 now it is 60 so a 3 year old colt carrying 55 prior to this would have carried 57 now.

it doesnt matter if they gv jackson 60kgs he would still beat this field with ease.he is that much superior to this field.its a pity the punters dont know how good he actually is and if he were trained by mdk he would be odds on for the race.

I was a JACKSON FOR JULY fan; until the draw was done. Now I'm not so sure. Bad draw, relatively inexperienced (all respect) jock is a worry.
Bayern you have summed it up exaclty the way I did. Variety Club made him battle; understandable, but getting to Vettel in ONLY the last furlong is a concern. As said, something could get away at the top of the straight.

Remember Fool's Holme, may have started 9/10 and was rolled. It's a handicap, the best horse in the race doesn't necessarily wins the race. No doubt Jackson is the horse to beat, the result is not a foregone conclusion.

Chris Snaith said to me when asked about the weight Flaming Rock would carry in a big race: "Weight stops trains but it does not stop rockets"

Jackson is really good enough to carry that weight against this field - the draw is my only worry

In the years that followed (after 1991) when he did carry weight in the July, he didn't win the race, so i would question the above statement.

flaming rock came into the july having won the clairwood mile group one in easy fashion and he didnt have to carry the penalty for its win as the weights were out already...he was a handicaped certainty that year
