What I can't understand, is that we are told that they have to water the track extensivley (millions of litres) before every meeting to 'compact' the sand and to prevent it from becoming too lose - but if it rains, the track becomes unusable - my small minde can't quite figure that one out :S

what amazes me is when I see overseas tracing on tracks far worse that ours when it rains they race and not very often is there mishaps.
My take is that in SA the jockeys and trainers are in a comfort zone
the jockeys get enough money so if racing do not go ahead it is OK
THE TRAINERS GET PAID EVEN IF THE HORSE STAND IN THE STABLE
but IN TH UK there are much more competition, the stakes are smaller.
there an average jock might pick up 2-3 races per card in SA an average jock can pick 4-5 rides on a card and still make his R2500 - R3000 per day x 3 meetings per week x 4 weeks so with that he can make a living so what if a meeting get cancelled.

Even in the USA they race in piss poor conditions, only when it is really really bad will they cancel the meeting.

IMO I think sometimes the powers to be are looking to not racing, they do not have to pay wages, stakes etc and they know the betting public will now use that money to punt on UK and other shit races where they do not have to layout money to make money,
so what scenario do you think is the best for them?

What happened at Kenw the other day proves my point if they really want to race they can.
