i fully agree!!!! infact, Do yourself a favour, walk into a tote and listen how passionately some punters talk about horses and the game. Past winners memorised, lenths it won by, the latest happenings in the personal lifes of jockeys and trainers even.
we as punters enjoy nothing more if a first-timer wins! Because frankly its nice to see a well bred horse win and well it doesn't happen often.Even sweeter if its for high profile owners eg. M.Slack, Joostes,Chris, Sabina etc. who put so much back into the game.
ALL we ask as punters is more transparency from stables _Yes, the craft and intriqacies of training (stable info) belongs to you and the handful of owners and stable 'friends" because you are in the game but we as punters generate the pools off which tax/deductions are made to sustain horse-racing and we can't be in the game even if we wanted to!.
I often ask myself if I would also become so "corrupted" if I had a training license....? Especially after in-excuseable interviews such as today, would I also try "protect" a price on my horse for the owners to back for an extra desimal or in the belief that its in the interest of racing or worse, to act as a saviour to the poor old bookmakers by making sure no confident bets gets laid based on honest stable information. No, I wouldn't stoop that low...how do I know that i hear sum ask....! because not a single day goes by where it doesn't bother me when 15 people from the public pitch at Kenilworth race-course OR thru the years i see punter numbers dwindle at the totes..... I can think of no better deed (or feeling) than tipping a horse on national print or media knowing the work that has been put in this horse has paid off to all concerned! Yes call it charity, we wont feel diminished.
Look, bookmakers would have access to the same stable info/comments in the media as regular punters so the winner in Race 2 would thus hav been shorter in odds but thats not the point. Its such a lovely game but truth is it can be so much more fun and "user friendly". Whats a better scenario in say a totelisator: Having a single soul catching an imposiible quartet and 50 others throwing away their tickets dejected..OR the tote buzzing with a "good thing" that arrived or multiple winners of the quartet.
Reality is we are all "shareholders" in racing and we are required to not only invest financially via our R6 swingers etc but also EMOTIONALLY and that sadly is not catered for. We get emotionally involved (it's gambling remember) and trainers, operators dont fathom that concept and its clear when u hear commentators remark on the lack of punter attendences at courses. If you do not increase transparency in racing it will slowly become sterile where it will only be a numbers game and for a few select. Or maybe it is just a Sport Of Kings!!
Tip the damn horses no-one actually listens to you in any case LOL
