RELEASED BY: Phumelela Gaming and Leisure Limited
Trainer Sean Tarry had mixed feelings after the draw for the R600,000
Emerald Cup was completed on Wednesday night.
Tarry has four runners in the Grade 2 event over 1450m on the Vaal sand
track on Saturday 22 September, including last year’s winner The
Mouseketeer.
Mr Tobin, a winner of nine of his 10 starts at the track, drew at No 10,
Grade 3 August Stakes winner Across The Ice at No 5, The Mouseketeer No 7
and Follow The Piper No 14. However, all of them will come in one spot if
the second reserve runner fails to get into the field.
``I’m not too worried about Mr Tobin drawing a little wide,’’ said Tarry.
``He doesn’t have any gate speed and I rather he doesn’t get caught up at
the back of the field on the rail where he would have to deal with all the
kick back.
``I am very happy with Across The Ice and The Mouseketeer. They both need
to be well positioned as they race up with the pace. Obviously it is
disappointing that Follow The Piper drew so wide.’’
Mr Tobin showed he will be the runner to beat when he come home lonely at
the Vaal on Thursday, beating Beacon Flare by 2.50 lengths.
As a result Betting World have shortened him from 4-1 to 3-1 but trainer
Weiho Marwing will be delighted that Beacon Flare will be 6kg better off
when they meet in the Emerald Cup. He is nicely drawn at No 6.
Mike de Kock also had mixed fortunes with Meadow Magic drawing well at No 2
but Right Beauty drew widest of all and will jump from barrier No 14.
Cape Town trainer Mike Bass will be delighted that Captain’s Secret, second
in the August Stakes, has drawn beautifully at No 3. Karl Neisius will be
coming up from Cape Town to take the ride.

Nice race ..... Mr Tobin definitely the one to beat, but Beacon Flare will definitely give him a run, especially if sent clear early. My initial fancy was Right Beauty but that draw is an absolute killer.
Those merit ratings tacked at the end can surely NOT BE CORRECT ?? Bob n Weave 103 SAND MR ? Mr Tobin a 76 SAND MR ?

Yip, don't let a small little thing like a MR in a handicap come between finding those 'well-in' horses - it's mostly about how many they have won
