@Hibs:
Under the old dispensation, things were far better.
The officials did not have agendas for self-enrichment..,.. they loved the sport (with all their other weaknesses!)
Also, you knew exactly where you stood with them; no blacks in the pubs ot Gold Ring, jobs strictly for whites (and they were honest about it!), etc.
Today, they are arrogant on the verge of total insolence, use blacks for positioning (when has one seen or heard of the chairman..... like Ramaphosa in another post on Marikana)? Even play off one lot of blacks against another (vis a vis Indians, Coloureds and Africans on whom is the emphasis).
The eventual decision-makers are whites..... any difference from 'apartheid' days?
I knew a lotsa whites during those days; they were open and sincere.... Legassicks, Hugh Syme, Smeaton, the Reys, Kidd, Peter Brown, Tattersalls, Riley, etc,.... and recently, M/s Philpott, Rob de Kock, Tony Winter, Ian Jayes, Tony Proudlock, Ormond Ferraris, Dave Scott, etc....... gentlemen!
I do not have to take up the cudgels any longer as there are new entrants..... and soon they will multiply like Malema!

Just an opinion.
Those Blacks that you see on the board probably just coaxed in by the "whiteys" to comply with BEE.
They probably had no other option.
As for the Blacks, they in for the money.

@flash harry:
'what did you do for the liberation?'
Lots if you care to know & respect!
Like,
1.
responsible for removal of the separating counters between white and black customers at banks...YES, that was ME! Check out the press articles about barclays Bank
2.
Called for Africans & Coloureds to be enrolled in Indian schools
3.
Drove Nobel Peace Prize recipient Nkosi Luthuli
4.
Raised funds to set up boreholes and water tanks in KZN/NCoast during its drought
5.
Distributed VHS copies of 'Prisoners of Conscience: Nelson Mandela- The Rivonia Trial', a BBC documentary with Sydney Poittier, and 'Mayibuye' amongst fellow students at school, etc.
6.
Was amongst the 'cabal' in the movement that endorsed contact with the 'regime' for a political solution, etc......
I have never succumbed to corruption and am in the forefront to state unequivocally 'This is not what we struggled for!'

Umlilo, I used to get upset with your postings till I read an article by a Mr Hanif Manjoo that can be found at :
pambazuka.org/en/category/letters/48397
.
Mr Manjoo says the following: (I quote)
1. "SA African blacks remain subconsciously prejudiced against other groups whilst (by stark contradiction) 'gel' with their former oppressors, the whites"
2. "During 'apartheid' we were not white enough; now, we are not black enough!"
After reading this I understand you a lot better. It must be very painfull.

hanif manjoo 'Druza: HRC a mouth piece of the white minority'- well noted comrade! Over the past few years, I submitted at least three instances of naked racism in the horseracing industry, which is dominated by elitist whites, many from the 'apartheid era, to the SAHRC- all ended up in File 13!
They not only protect racist white's sensitivities, but the only time you can get them off their **** is if your name is Jody Kollapen and you are refused a haircut in a white-owned salon in Centurion! THE MEDIA CRONIES WILL POUNCE ON IT AS FRONT PAGE
hanif manjoo Senzo DAVID BULLARD GIVEN THE BOOT!!! - Viva! Comrades, there is one thing I learned very early; watch for those who hunt with the hounds and run with the hare!
Recently, there has been an increasing number of white neo-liberal journalists who profess to support the changes within the ANC. However, a closer inspection (and analysis) reveals a hidden agenda of wanting to show us up by exposing supposed contradictions or non-action on issues which suit them. Sadly, most of our leaders are playing into their hands by still letting the people down, time and again
blah blah are you a counter racist because you black hanif?

@Flash Harry:
'are you a counter racist because you black hanif?'
Yet, you do not refer to the u-turn Bullard did?
In one breath, we ask to forget the past, forgive and get on; in the next, those who do are staright-jacketted?
I cannot afford to be racist; I fully endorse the Freedom Charter.... this country is for all who live in it...! Yet, yes, I tend to recated against racism with counter racism!
However, when the handle turns, and the freedom we cherished is hijacked by groupings which have their own agendas (talking with forked tongue about non-racism, yet benefitting inexorably from the new system!), that calls for an overhaul of our precepts and totall thinking....not so?
We talk so blandly about racism (which is deep seated prejudice), between blacks and whites; yet. how often have we heard about the same prejudices & hatred amongst whites; inter alia, Jews and non-Jews, Lebanese and Syrian Christians, English and Afrikaners, Greeks and others, etc? Like between Xhosa and Zulu, etc?
Like or hate him, Malema has set in motion a revolution of sorts (kindled and fomented by the surreptitious trough-led ANC). I don't endorse his personal record whatsoever, but, as a demagogue, have to respect him..... he is playinbg the right cards at the right time..... and that is ominous for the country!
My disappointment with the current ANC does not come from sour grapes; it's that I was mentored by a great Nobel Peace recipient leader of the ANC. He did preach peace and reconciliation; not corruption and splinter politics.
Maybe, I have not contextualised it properly, but (as I mentioned) 'THIS IS NOT WHAT WE STRUGGLED FOR!'
We have no leadership; the one we have is a time bomb!
@Frodo:
'I hope Malema is going to contribute some of his millions (some of it alleged to be 'fraudulenltly obtained') to the grooms' trust'
Don't dispute that!
(But why did reference to 'grooms' become a sore point? What of the tellers at tote outlets whose terms and conditions of employment were unilaterally changed so that they are permanent casuals?)
However, when I approached Ramaphosa and other 'struggle comrades' come good to support former African trainer Bulana, I did not even receive an acknowledgement, except for Tokyo Sexwale.
Yes, you right.... Malema will contribute (like Ramaphosa and the others)!
The 'apartheid' days of marginalisation and prejudice have now been reinstated by something even more vicious and degrading; if you not at the trough (whether black or white), you don't matter! Contrary to your thinking, this is not about racism per se!
In conclusion, there are numerous whites and blacks (Indians, Coloureds and Africans) that contributed to & sacrificed for the struggle for a free, democratic South Africa..... not just the individual Hanif Manjoo! I salute and respect them all.
If we all can accept that, and start building bridges (instead of conceited, cynical remarks), I am positive that our country will be united in diversity.... Amandla!

@sharkie:
'2. "During 'apartheid' we were not white enough; now, we are not black enough!"
Well noted; no better truism (even if I do get upset with some of our 'not dark enough' fellow blacks)!
And that is being exploited and capitalised upon!

Don't really want to get into politics on this site, but it was not the word 'grooms' that triggered my reponse - rather the word 'Malema' - my wish for him should not be utttered on a public platform - and I will not debate this further on this site
