The Vaal Sand track ran very slow last week, 25th Oct.
A figure of minus 2.3 seconds per 1000m was recorded. This course variation was consistent throughout except for the faster Aljawhara race and the slower Atonement race (the first race at VS remains an enigma!!??!!).
The significance of the ‘slow surface’ relative to horse’s performances/ratings has to be established.

My Ten Cents For Today, working purely on times over distance on sand, caught the all on last time on sand made a few sheckles
Remember ONLY places even though they may be short, CLOSE THE BOOKIE DOWN
RA
IN ON THE SQUARE
BRIDGEWATER
FOLLOW THE PIPER
PRIME MOVER
KUDOS
CROWN HEIGHTS
BERRYMILLER
Should be close today......GOOD LUCK
Other horses to watch today.....
FACING FURY (DURBAN RAIDER)
QUEEN OF QUEST & VESTALIA (BLINKERS)
PLATOON (BLINKERS & STRIKER)

My eyes must be deceiving me - does not look that difficult today?
R2: Inn on the Square very short, but does look the right one - Sakkie Sakkie and Top Trumps (stamina doubts?) looks the only other ones in the race
R3: Pemba tries the sand and should walk in against this lot if he takes to the sand - if not Platoon could pick up the pieces - if you're looking for some real looneys, maybe consider Winter Sleet, who is by Spectrum and tries the sand, and Sarawan who also tries the sand ran a fair race behind Agadez last time.
R4: Follow the Piper looks the right one from Raise the Bar - Vivacious Star looks to be better on the turf, but is the only other one in the race imo
R5: This looks competitive; Prime Mover better over the 1200 and must have a chance to at least finish closer to Across the Ice at the weights - Mythicla Palace has done nothing wrong, but imo faces stronger here - Merhee is an unknown quantity on the sand, but it would take a brave (stupid?) man to ignore the de Kock coupling - and if you include all those in the P6, you might as well add Chrysalis and take the field
R6: New York is consistent, but has proved to be costly to follow in terms of winning, and looks much too short in the betting; Mcallistor has beaten NY before and is only 1/2 a kg worse off, Zebulon returns to the sand and could upset with the 4kg allowance; Trip Master is probably going to try and make all with a low weight - and Halabaloo and Kudos (who won by a street last week) can't be ignored either.
R7: Probably the toughest race on the card as suggested by the betting - biggest outsider is 12/1 - a pin may come in handy
R8: Not a lot between Fall of Troy, Berrymiller and Virgil Cane - those 3 stand out imo - but Kruger Gold, Tiger Attack and Holy Smokey have drawn well and could feature.
So to me it looks pretty 'easy' to start and more competitve in the later races - enjoy (tu)
