Here's my 2 cents worth. Over the years we have seen the likes of Tommy Hotspur, (i hope i get this right) the Tarry horse Mythetical Flag, and more recently, Val De Ra, and all these horses only had one speed, lightning fast. They kinda had their races won after the first 200m of a race, in that, they put daylight between themselves and the field, and it's a case of catch me if you can. The only way to beat these speedsters is to take them on from the get-go (at your peril) and hope they fold at the business end, but the question must be asked, who has the early speed to commit and take that chance? Getting back to Saturday's race, i think Via Africa will gallop them into submission.
Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.

Eric Sands believed his Grade 1 Betting World Cape Flying Championship contender Magico would run a “good race” over the 1 000m trip at Kenilworth Racecourse on Saturday.
“I can’t say I have him fitter than last time, but I think he will prefer the 1 000m,” he said.
Magico has 4,25 lengths to find on What A Winter from their meeting over 1 200m in the Grade 2 Diadem Stakes last time. He was actually running on well late in that race, but has always been viewed as a 1 000m specialist. In fact his six wins have all been over the minimum trip.
He will likely start at quite long odds on Saturday, but his connections will be hoping he can repeat his run in the weight for age Grade 1 Computaform Sprint over 1000m at Turffontein last April, when runner up at odds of 75-1.
Sands continued, “He has to give weight to the three-year-olds, but it is a weight for age race and if he is not good enough he is not good enough.”
On the horses to beat, he said, “Via Africa and What A Winter. Cap Alright has also beaten us three times but has had a lot of racing. I think it is a more open race than meets the eye.”

Dean Kannemeyer said that Cape Royal was doing “exceptionally well” ahead of his big date in Saturday’s Grade 1 Betting World Cape Flying Championship over 1000m at Kenilworth.
The star three-year-old Royal Academy colt has won his last three starts in fine style and was particularly impressive when winning a handicap last time out over the Cape Flying course and distance off a rating of 100.
Kannemeyer said, “He beat Casual Var in that race giving her 4,5kg and she’s a speedy sort. Karl (Neisius) was watching Cap Alright in the race as he didn’t want to let him get away.
“So he might have moved too early because it looks as if Casual Var is coming to catch him late. But then he found more and put his head in front again. So, it was a very good run.”
Cape Royal also showed signs of inexperience in that race as he hung inward before straightening out late. “He was looking for company so shifted out to join the other horse,” said Kannemeyer.
Kanemeyer was under no illusions about how tough Saturday’s race will be. “I’ve thrown him into the deep end but I wouldn’t have done so if I didn’t think he was good enough. Anyway where else would I go off a merit rating of 106?
“But, it won’t be an easy task. I have a lot of respect for Via Africa and think she is the horse to beat because of her speed. What A Winter was brilliant over 1 200m two runs ago and then ran over a mile so it won’t be easy to come back to 1 000m. But he’s rated 120 and is a brilliant racehorse.”
Kannemeyer said that Cape Royal had more speed than his other top class speed horse, Divine Jet. “This race came a bit soon for Divine Jet, so I’m saving him for the KwaZulu-Natal season.” Cape Royal will do a sprint up tomorrow as the final workout of his preparation.

Garth Puller felt his two Grade 1 Betting World Cape Flying Championship contenders Tetelestai and Jinzo would be “up against it” on Saturday at Kenilworth despite running over their favourite 1 000m trip.
“They are both older horses, but Tetelestai has won eleven races and Jinzo has won eight, so they deserve a crack at a big race as their swansongs. It won’t be their last runs as they could still be freshened up to win Pinnacle Plates.”
Puller reckoned he had made a mistake by running Tetelestai in a Pinnacle Stakes race over the Kenilworth course and distance on January 12, as it had turned out to be too close to his arduous journey from Durban.
“He appeared to have travelled well,” he recalled, so they took a chance.
However, the six-year-old Bezrin gelding was clearly not himself and was not persevered with in the closing stages. However, Puller reckoned he had recovered well, was eating up and would be in good shape on Saturday.
Tetelestai has appeared to be getting better with age and can’t be discounted for a place.
His win at his favourite track of Greyville with a big weight in a Listed 1 000m event on Super Saturday last season was full of class and he won his final race before his journey to Cape Town over 1 000m at Clairwood in good style too.
Puller said about the seven-year-old Qui Danzig gelding Jinzo, “His last run was good and he will run well again. He used to start slowly and then run on, but he has suddenly started jumping well, so we will have to have a rethink about his strategy.”
Puller made the speedy three-year-old Var filly Via Africa the one to beat.
“I always say the best horse over 1 000m is the one that can go from A to B in the quickest time, so a lot points to Via Africa. She has youth on her side too and has a high cruising speed.”
He reckoned he would have been more confident of What A Winter’s chances if he hadn’t run in the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate. “The 1 000m is on the sharp side and now they will have to freshen him up, but if they can he can win.”
