Just a wee update..went for a swallow xray today plus a throat camera test...
They stood me up infront of an xray machine and gave me some liquid to swallow and asked me to do a few tests, then they repeated it with a spoonful of pudding. They then took me through a treatment room and told me that my swallowing was severley compromised and repeated the process using a camera.
This bit was quite interesting lasted about 50 minutes, they stuck a camera up my nose and down my throat, then showed me a video of the process.First thing they noticed that the pudding from the xray was still in the back of my throat from 30 minutes ago.
They then showed me swallowing some milk with blue food colouring and i could see that the milk was not going where it was meant to and was slipping away down my airway to my lung.Seemingly when you swallow a muscle closes the airway so that nothing goes down the wrong way.I have no sensation that this is happening, anyone else would be coughing their guts out, watery eyes etc..
Never knew that your body was so complex...
Start my radiopherapy in 3 weeks and the surgeon reckons this will hamper my swallowing problem,so they have sent me away with some throat exercises and a appointment card for 3 months today :
Plus point.. i`m still punting
