Some nice racing - even with the main attraction (Pylon) not running; some thoughts:

R2: Lots of if's and but's; the form of Tacit Tiger's sand run behind Water Music not overall convincing imo; that being said, the other runners with some form on the sand, does not look too clever either; Cerise Silk probably best over this trip, but may not have the speed to overcome a wide draw, so I won't be surprised if one of the sand debutants win this, and if Tacit Tiger fades out those last 50m, we may have a PA result.

R3: I agree with most that Accross the Ice looks the part here; the scratchings of the stable companions later in addition to the draw, counts against Solarium imo and Right Beauty's last effort also put me off him, so I think Calanish (3 wins over this trip - the last when drawn 11 out of 11) could be the main danger.

R4: Competitive fillies handicap where Tobe's Lass goes for her 36th start (still only 3) but shows no ill effects of being kept on the boil - also her MR has jumped 12 points since her last start over this trip when finishing 2nd to Zephyr Breeze, however she still holds her (probably) main competitor Georgia on My Mind - who in turn is worse off at the weights with Slightly Blonde, who does look some value imo. Those 3 stand out imo, but others like Canta Libre and Mesmerising Melody can also feature if reproducing their best runs; Beautiful Dawn probably best of the rest

R5: Toughest race on the card, not much splitting Palace Town, Men and Mountains, Eagle Face and Magic Roma on collateral form and Striker sticks with Dennis the Menace from an in-form stable, so can't be ignored either, while National Road tries the surface but has a big weight.

R6: The scratching of Pylon leaves the way open for Mr Tobin, who has 6 wins over this trip and may have suffered from the '2nd run after a rest syndrome' last time; if MT does not return to his best, imo Eastern Cobbler could take advantage; better off at the weights with Tap Tap Makhatini on their last meeting and may not have had the best of trips last time from a wide draw; imo The Mouseketeer is better over the 1450m trip, so place chance at best froma widish draw

R7: Conditions race, but complicated imo by the erratic form of Magic Smoke; has not yet repeated her excellent win in January when easily taking care of Formation over this trip, so that may have been a flash in the pan; also Formation on the day was returning to the track after a break of nearly 2 months, so may now be back to best; should not be much between Formation and Rebel Queen at the weights over the longer trip, so those 2 stand out imo. Follow the Piper and Raise the Bar are best in at the weights here, but neither of those has won over this trip and have stamina limitations imo; Bluroute probably better than an 86, so could be the dark horse, but the others have something to find imo

R8: Tricky close, where the top 2 on the boards (Rock the Country and Dark Night) both try the sand for the first time, so hard to know what to expect (although being by Western Winter and Kahal should not mind the sand) ; imo the safer option could be Roll Call (if he can overcome his breathing issues) and Silver Specialist (break a leg Elvis (tu)) who does still look a little high in the ratings; Berrymiller prefers shorter imo and the best roughy imo is SS's stable companion Baron Zemo, who put up a nice post maiden effort; should prefer the shorter trip and could have enough gate speed to over come a wide draw to hold on for a place

Enjoy (tu)

Fradd wants bread buttered both sides but if you want to ride for 2 of the top stables from one training centre you will burn your hand , think he spend too much time in woodruffs yard and didnt give azzie yard the attention he used to and took better rides on woodruff runners when azzie also had a runner in the race, somewhere one of the 2 big trainers going to draw a line and decide to move onto a more fulltime stable jock
just my thought

Nive summaries THH and Frodo, thanks guys (tu)

Frodo... Formgrids has Dark Knight running on the sand 24 Sept 11, midfield (4th or 5th start I think)

Selections and a couple of other thoughts (:D

1. Fradd rides the heavily supported sand debutants Royal Roy in the first and Rock The Country in the last... a small double might not be the most stupid bet ever
2. Complete idiot... 3 turf runs very poor and trainer form far from impressive but Captains Tale in the first does not look badly bred for the sand to me and at 75s might be worth 2 rand.
3. Others at decent prices I've thrown into doubles n up... R3 11 Memghar; R4 12 Beautiful Dawn; R5 6 Woza Friday; R6 4 Eastern Cobbler; R7 9 Rivulet

Selections...
R1 3 Tempered Steel
R2 1 Tacit Tiger
R3 1 Across The Ice
R4 3 Tobe's Lass
R5 8 Magic Aroma
R6 4 Eastern Cobbler
R7 5 Rebel Queen
R8 2 Silver Specialist

Be(s)t of luck to all (tu)

Thanks guys some nice write up's. (tu)

All the best to Brasss, his brother, Elvis and any other clan members with runners today. (tu)

Not the easiest Vaal Sand card I have ever seen it should mean we should atleast get some decent payouts. My best for today is Georgia On My Mind in the 4th. She has had 5 consecutive decent sand runs and seems to be improving all the time on the surface. Her last start was in a R150k feature where she ran a creditable 3rd under heavy sufference against a decent field. A repeat of that run will see her in the number 1 box. I make Tobe's Lass her main danger but feel Georgia On My Mind will pick up her 3rd win today and the 9/2 looks very appealing. (tu)

My Treble for the Day at 50/1 is:
Race 2: 1 Tacit Tiger
Race 4: 8 Georgia On My Mind
Race 6: 7 Taptap Makhatini (Said would follow until he loses even though out at the weights with Eastern Cobbler who must be value at 12/1)

My PA for today is for R720 play a %:
Leg 1: 1
Leg 2: 1,2,5
Leg 3: 3,8
Leg 4: 2,3,8,9
Leg 5: 2,7
Leg 6: 3,4,5
Leg 7: 2,3,4,5,6

Play well. (tu)
