Place fancies today:

R6#9 Bluroute (18/10 from the de Kock stable is DST0-2-2 DC-0-3-3 CRS1-1-2 and has run ins some strong races this DC running 0.05 behind Sky Pirate carrying 0,5 more and 2,25 behind Festival of fire (feuture winner SAT) as well as 4 behind cherry on the Cake and from a 3 draw must be the horse to beat rather than the favorite that is also 2ndRR and Jamal also 2rdRR with Yeni only 2 runs for the day. Could take a chance and banke Blueroute in the exotics.

R7#3 Mainmast (6/1) from the Laird stable 1st run for C Laird /2 and after a rest coming back to it's preferred DST 3-4-8 CD1-1-2 CRS1-1-2 and gets Marcus up for the ride which has not been worse than 2nd in 3 attempts running 1st or 2nd in last 5 attempts over 1200 and winning last 3 over 1200 in 3 different track conditions Y,S,G last in AMR82 company being slow away still finishing well to win drifting to 33/10. Last run prior to rest was 1400 & returned coughing so if fully fit after 73 day rest should do well here. Since slightly unknown from a 74 days rest and drifting we suggest weighted more on the places.

Can someone please explain to me how you decide whether to back a 1st timer or not?Is it all about the stable, breeding etc. or do you listen to what the trainers have to say?I'm sorry if this sounds stupid,but like I said previously,I am new in this game and would very much like to learn as much as I can.Any books you can recommend perhaps to help me learn?Thanks

Just research mate IMO:

In the 1st for e.g Captain's Reserve taken from SportingPost (thx SportingPost)

CAPTAIN’S RESERVE a VH Marshall
Mrs I Jooste & Mr M J Jooste (B: Klawervlei Stud)
Emerald green, yellow stars, black sleeves and cap
2 b c Captain Al - Private Reserve (Model Man) 5Nov10; 600k Crtr (SI 3.22); ; dam: 4 wins, 800-1200m (unbeaten); Champion 2yo Filly, winning foals incl. Trouble At The Top (02c Navarone; 1w, 1000m; AR81-MR84); Reserved Emblem (08f National Emblem; 1w, 1600m; AR80-MR78); Guns Of Navarone (06c Navarone; 1w, 1400m; AR78-MR84); My Money (04fInTheMoney;1w,1400m;AR62-MR56); firstrun;

VHMarshall 23 15 65% 18 78%

And it is an only runner for the day for Captain's Reserve
