From my armchair spot on my comfortable couch eating fruit, smoking cigarettes and watching captain kangaroo I can tell you unequivocally the course was in a piss poor state for the biggest race meeting of the year at Scottsville.

I will tell you why it had happened too.

Let's cast our minds back one year. Rain before and some during the meeting. The course was quite soft, the going on the outside was DEAD. If you were drawn there you may as well have stayed in your box.
This year the powers that be or the course management or whomever said....."better not let last years happenings repeat itself". Doesn't matter how much rain we get, we will not water the course and make it fair for everyone......

What a joke that turned out to be. It looked like the horses were running on the Vaal sand there was so much dust being kicked up......and guess what???? If you were drawn on the stand side, you may as well have stayed in your box.

How come Kenilworth can get it right in January (J&BMet) when there is no rain but they still manage to have the course spot on.

I have to echo WE sentiments.....I hope the horses pull up sound that ran on the concrete yesterday. Not sure it can be entirely good for their sensitive legs and joints.

The course wasn't watered all week, they threw sand down to try and level it out, clods of grass that are not able to bind and grow were kicking up and hitting humans and animals.....that is dangerous! That wasn't seen from an armchair, that was spelt out from the little guys on top.::o
